December 2, 2020: Around the Corner

posted in: Bulls | 0

Normally we’d be over a month in to the NBA season. Lately, this has been about the time the Bulls have gone forward with full-on tank mode. Somehow I don’t think that is going to be happening this year. The NBA season is around the corner, and the Bulls, yes the Bulls, may provide a much needed lift for us beaten down Bears fans.

It’s great to see some new blood, at least in the front office and coaching staff. I was so sick of seeing Gar Forman’s face; I grew really sick of hearing John Paxson talk. Thankfully, we’ll have neither this season. Hey, 2020 did have its bright spots. Yes, the famous GarPax are gone, and now AK… I’m not going to spell his name out every time I write about him… has taken the reigns. It’s refreshing to hear him talk basketball. It’s kind of like the feeling you get listening to Biden talk vs what we had to endure these past 4 years. We finally have somebody that is competent. Will they turn out to be successful? Time will tell… it just feels a whole lot better out of the gate. His hiring of Billy Donovan is a really good, based on my initial reaction; I think most would agree. Again, time will tell how well he does on the Bulls sideline, but he can’t possibly do worse than the last two buffoons we marched out there. Hoiberg was horrible, yet Boylen made me miss him… glad those eras are in the rear view. Yes, the future is looking bright for our boys.

The roster will look very much the same from the start of the season; I’m OK with that. As time goes on, I’m sure there will be moves made, but let’s first see what we got with a competent coach. The biggest beneficiary of this change has to be Lauri. Don’t know what the hell Boylen had him doing, but it all netted out to a big step backward for this kid I was really excited about. Looking forward to seeing him get back on track, and do damage from all areas of the court, including down low. I imagine Lavine will experience a lift too in his on court performance, and maybe most importantly, his decision making. Excited to get Wendell back out there; anxious to see Coby’s sophomore year. Curious to see how AK’s first draft pick pans out. Yes, the Bulls may be exciting to watch again; boy do we need it.

Per the ESPN preseason schedule, the Bulls will play their first game in 10 days; the NBA regular season will start soon after that. Will there be 36 games played at the UC? Will there be fans allowed? How will this NBA season proceed in the midst, hopefully the downside, of this pandemic? The bubble worked fine for the playoffs last year; can’t do a bubble for a full 72 game season. There’s all that to think about, but at the end of the day, the show will go on. Hopefully everybody will stay safe & healthy. Hopefully the Bulls will be back in the playoffs. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I don’t think that is an unreasonable expectation for year 1 of the AK-Billy era. Looking forward to watching some Bulls basketball…
