Monday night I was back at the UC. Guy from work had some tickets and offered to take me, my brother, and my dad. My bro couldn’t make it, so the three of us rolled out together. Quick stop at Billy Goat’s before heading back to the UC to see the Hawks for the second time in two weeks. Remember, free parking at Billy Goat’s… I don’t even think you have to eat there, although we typically will. Quick bite to eat, quick beer, and get on with the three block walk to the UC. Cool thing now is that you can enter through the atrium. Always good to see the MJ statue. Then straight from there into the 100 level concourse. Different visit from the one with my son. This time I would be with my father. This is the main reason I wanted to go…
The Hawks played like absolute crap on this evening. Shutout for God’s sake… didn’t even get to sing the song one time; sad, very sad. It was against the defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues. You just knew there would be a lot of Blues fans, a lot more than normal, and there were. Everyone rocking their 2019 Stanley Cup Champion gear… it was funny to me. I get it though. They had to endure the entire history of their franchise before finally winning one last year. They had to watch the Hawks reel off 3 Cup wins this decade, while enduring a mass of Hawks fans every game in St. Louis. I’m sure they got mighty sick of us. And now, they get to give it back to us a little bit… but not really. Congrats on your Cup win, but talk to us when you have 6 Cups like our franchise, or even just 3, like this current era. It’s nice and all to win one; trust me, I know. But you really got nothing on us… except the win on this Monday night in December.

Just being out with my dad was a win, the same way just being with my son is. We had a good time, and no, I didn’t let this train off the rails… I didn’t get drunk or anything, even though I wasn’t driving. How many times have I let that happen recently? It’s been a while… and that’s OK. I’m not saying there will never be another, I’m just saying that I’ve had enough of those nights to last me a few lifetimes.
Until next time in the UC… Go Hawks!
