I’ve got 31 million reasons, and being a Cub ain’t one.
I really wanted to reunite with my old manager. He’s one of the best, if not the best, manager in the game. My good guy in the locker room attitude, while having fun at my job, would go hand in hand with his philosophy. And then there’s the team…
It’s hard to argue that they don’t have as bright a future as anybody. With their young core, extremely young core, I may have had the best chance to win with them. But, 31 million dollars per year for the next 7 years is a lot of money…
And Boston isn’t a bad city. I mean, it’s the Red Sox. They have arguably the best fan base in baseball… although the Cubs have a pretty good one too. Fenway Park… come on… iconic. Yeah, but Wrigley Field trumps all there. The AL East is currently weaker than the NL Central, so that gives me a better chance to win, right? Maybe. It is the American League though, which has been recently way more difficult to pitch in than the National League, but I know that; this is where I’ve spent my entire career. Imagine what I could have done in the NL…
But I love the AL East… I came from there. Plus my career ERA in Fenway is sub 2.00… if I could keep that up over an entire season or two… wait, for 7 seasons, then I’ll be a shoe in for the HOF. Plus Boston will throw money around too, and put some more pieces in place, so we can be a front runner too. Heck, me coming here makes Boston relevant again. And they have a number of young players as well…
I really loved Toronto too… man that city came alive when we were winning. And Toronto is no slouch of a city either… plenty to do there, plus living in Canada woul be cool. But… no, both Toronto and Chicago fell short by a few million bucks. I don’t want to make it all about the money, but… although it kind of is, Boston is really, really cool.

Honestly, I couldn’t go to the Cubs with my postseason record and ERA. Match that up to their history… I’d be the new goat on the North Side of Chicago. There would be so much pressure come playoff time… and I haven’t been that great as it is… I’d be worried. I would be worried of letting my favorite manager down. I’d be worried about crushing the soul of the Cubs fans again. I would be worried about failing. You have to admit, it is a lot of pressure…
But Boston already has their titles. I know their fans are crazy too, but we’ve got ours already. Look, I’m even saying “we” now… We will be competitive and yeah, there’ll be pressure, but I can handle that… I hope. And if not, oh well… I think the 31 million dollars per year will make me forget about that.
Taking the money isn’t always the bad thing to do. Look at Carmelo… oh, wait… bad example. Well Scherzer got his ring with the Nationals… oh… no, not yet, but they’re still in good shape. Maybe we’ll meet in the World Series. How cool would that be? Hey, LeBron took his talents to South Beach… but that was more about getting out of Cleveland right and trying to bulid a mega team so he could finally win. Bad comparision… I am not running to join somebody else’s team.. well, I guess, but no, I’ll be the leader of this staff… not like with Arrieta and Lester in Chicago.
Anyways, I can’t wait to put on the Red Sox uniform. I’m on the team I will retire with, and have enough money to never have to worry about it again the rest of my life. Ain’t nothing wrong with that… Being the highest paid pitcher of all-time is pretty cool too…. I hope Zack doesn’t beat me out. Although he probably will… this money is getting crazy out here, and I had to secure my future… and make sure my family is taken care of… kind of like DRose and PJ
I am David Price and I am the new 31 million dollar man.
Mo
Let’s not panic, Cubs don’t need a pitcher like Price for that price. Cubs have the 1st 2 pitching slots covered, so its even less of a worry. They need a 3 and maybe 4 , 5 is covered.
1. Jake Arietta- front line ACE, need to pay him like one.
Pro: After a hell of a year, having this guy eat up innings, with his ERA is worth about 25 to 27 million a year. He saves the bullpen and coaching staff from overthinking situations.
Con: Give him the big money, only to find out last year was a fluke, returning back to his Baltimore years.
2. Jon Lester- the crafty left handed veteran who i think has not lived up to his contract.
Pro: Left handed “2” pitcher with good stuff with post-season experience, should be a leader in the club house.
Con: Doesn’t start well, leaves pitches up, but so do 90% of all pitchers. Jury is out on him for now.
Free agents Cubs should shoot for:
Mike Leake- only 28, not that expensive, would be able to sign to a 3-5 year contract and would probably fit right in with the young talent.
Hisashi Iwakuma- This guys got good stuff. With the help of our pitching staff could turn great. Would be great in the NL.
Doug Fister- 31 and INJ free, still got a lot of gas in the tank.
Mark Buehire- love this guy, 1 year contract and a lefty, he can still do it.
Josh Johnson- he anit dead yet.
Matt Latos- could come in cheap
Still some pitchers out there, but would you trade for Matt Harvey or Shelby Miller? The Cubs have the young talent to land one.
Stay tuned to find out!
