December 2, 2014: December Swoon

posted in: Bears | 7

Here we sit in December again, just when football season should be getting good.  Here we sit in December again, and the Bears have failed us again.  They have taken the joy out of football from here on out.

I know I’m biased, but I would rank Chicago pretty high on the football city list across the country.  Of course I would rank Chicago #1, but even the non-biased people in the know, know, that Bears fans are among the best in the country.  Why then has the product on the field been in the tank?  Why will be sitting on our couches after week 17 watching the good teams play football in January?  Why aren’t the Bears in that group year in year out?

Where to start…  It’s top to bottom really.  You have to go all the way to the top and look at the ownership.  What is it about the McCaskey family that sucks?  We know better than anybody how bad they have been.  Why do we get stuck with a bum ownership family?  This didn’t happen overnight, but change COULD happen overnight.  Remember William Wirtz…  Besides waiting for that, because you don’t want to wish that upon anybody, we’re stuck.  We also need to hope there’s somebody in the McCaskey family like Rocky Wirtz when that time comes.

Next in line is Ted Phllips, President & CEO.  What is he accountable for?  That’s a question we can ask of each level of this mess.  Who has that answer?  Are the McCaskey’s making the decisions or is Ted Phillips?  What really goes on behind closed doors?  He’s been around since 1999, so… counting this year, there have been 16 opportunities for the Bears to make the playoffs.  How many times HAVE they made the playoffs?  4.  Unacceptable?  Uh, yeah…  Again, where is the accountability for the Bears failures?

In another interview that was high, the vocalist started weeping when talking about his childhood abuse and covered pdxcommercial.com buy viagra in canada his face with his hand. Next up is GM Phil Emery.  This is year 3 of the Emery era.  Yep, 0 for 3.  At what point do you pull the plug?  Heck, if he gets the same rope as Ted Phillips, he’ll be around forever.  I don’t think that will happen at this rate.  I’m sure Ted will make the right decision so it’s NOT him.  Let’s pick a scapegoat, and fire another GM.  Does it fall on the GM, or if we get rid of him, does the problem still exist on the 2 levels above?  We are a bigger mess than we think.  I liked Phil when he came in, and then he went ahead and drafted Shea McClellin… Shea who?  The rest of his draft picks which we CAN hold HIM accountable for have been OK; Alshon has been the gem so far, with the jury still out on a bunch of guys.  This was Jerry Angelo’s eventual downfall.  This year’s draft, IN CHICAGO, will be the most critical of his regime.  Then there’s the decision he made to hire…

That brings us to the coaching staff headed up by Marc Trestman.  Yep, 0 for 2.  It’s only his 2nd year, and he was originally signed to a 4 year deal.  I know it’s still early in the big scheme of things, but at this rate, he’s got to GO… along with his entire coaching staff.  Emery needs to push for this to save his ass, unless he wants to go down with him.  Monday after Week 17, the entire coaching staff should be canned, yet, does that solve the problem?  We know we still have problems higher up, but what about the last level?

The players are the ones on the field that have to play above all the BS.  They’re the ones on the field each and every week putting it all on the line, and getting well compensated for it.  I guess that’s where my question comes in with this group… are these players committed to this?  If not, is it due to the coaching or does the onus fall on the players themselves?  Yes, a bad coaching staff does not help this situation (neither does a poor GM, president, or owner), but at the end of the day, the players have to be accountable for their own performance.  If that was true, it would be nice to NOT pay any of the Bears (except Matt Forte maybe) a full paycheck this year, because they haven’t earned a damn thing.

Damn that’s depressing…  if there is no change, I can’t help but think this thing will get worse before it gets better, and after this year up to this point, that’s hard to imagine… that’s painful to think about… that gets me downright pissed off.  What will it take to turn this ship that is the Bears franchise around?  More to come…

Unfortunately, I doubt they’ll be many changes at all for the bears, There never is!! Its a business to the McCaskey’s, about making money, and there good at it. They don’t care about winning or the fans. Tickets go up, games still sell out, parking lots are loaded with happy drunks, weird new stadium, and marketing sales are great across the country annually. In every other city its some rich guys hobby. The McCaskey’s are CHEAP and always will be. There is no Rocky at Halas Hall, and not to mention the Packers domination over the Bears.
The bears could have dominated the no salary cap years with all their money when I was growing up. They didn’t! DALLAS, Pittsburgh, and the 49ers did! A fluke year in 85′ and the McCaskey’s quickly dismantled that the moment the Super Bowl ended. The best athlete on the team (Wilbur Marshall) was gone by the end of the week. Good luck changing history.

Probably the same thing said about the Blackhawks all those dark years… yet look at now, and EVERYBODY is a Hawks fan.

Regardless of the past & current problems, and the successes of other teams, we stay true to the Bears. Like the players on the field (most years), we need to be above all the BS, and cheer on our team regardless. I’m sure there are plenty of other teams in this type of situation, or worse. At the end of the day, there’s only 1 Super Bowl winner every year, and only a handful of teams that make the playoffs consistently.

1985 can be called a fluke only because it was the only Super Bowl we’ve won. The team itself was defintely no fluke… best team ever; you know that.

Who will win the next super bowl? Your cowgirls or my Bears? Good luck Thursday… haha.

fluke year in 85′ huh….its like saying Golden Dommers are not a real team! I was 4 years old back in 85, but even I know not to talk about them….that would get you 5 across the eyes!!

1985 was the best NFL team EVER assembled, lead by the one and only Walter Payton. The FLUKE part is the Bears ownership put it together. They quickly ruined it and haven’t been remotely close since.

No chance of winning with Sexy Rexy and an inconsistent offense. I don’t think any Bear fan was confident they were going to beat Manning. Hester even ran the opening kick off back to help the offense. Nasty weather to the Bears advantage. Didn’t matter.
In 1985 the world new the Bears were going to win! The only question was by how much and if the Patriots would score. 46-10
