December 19, 2014: Bears Lions II Preview

posted in: Bears | 3

Well, well, well…  this game just got a little bit more interesting.  The national news that was Jay Cutler’s benching spread across the sports world yesterday.  As far as this game goes, I don’t think the outcome will change much based on the big move.

It WAS surprising, even though it shouldn’t have been.  It was surprising that the Bears actually decided to do something, since they haven’t done anything to this point.  Papa Vegas took notice, and moved the line anywhere from 4-5 points Detroit’s way.  So our million dollar man is worth about 4-5 points?  Like I said, it doesn’t matter in this one.  The line which opened at a generous 4.5, now sits around 8.5.  I think Detroit covers either line.  Has anybody been watching the Bears?  Hopefully nobody has been betting on them.  I really can’t see a way they stay close in this one.  Usually, that would kick in my opposite thinking with the game odds, but I can’t even think that now.  I still thought that last Monday night for a second…  Detroit fighting for the NFC North crown, has much to play for, while the Bears, well, let’s just say it will be interesting with Claussen at the helm.

But… it is Detroit.  I read something briefly that they’re still having locker room issues even though the team is having a really good year.  With Detroit, similar to Dallas, you’re just kind of waiting for them to implode.  If they blew this game on Sunday, that would qualify.  I don’t think they’ve clinched a playoff spot yet, so with a loss on Sunday, and then next week vs Green Bay, they could miss the playoffs.  I would love to see that, although I’d rather see them beat Green Bay next week… I’d rather see anybody beat them.

How will Jimmy do?  I’ve heard people say this is Trestman trying to show the world that another QB can run his system successfully.  Josh McCown did it.  Each day that passes by, the ridiculous argument that we should have kept McCown, doesn’t sound so ridiculous.  With this benching, it sounds even more reasonable.  Tell me again, what would our record be if McCown had started in this offense all year???  We’ll never know, but we’ll get a glimpse of somebody else running this offense on Sunday, and for that, I am interested.  I really wasn’t even planning on watching the game.  I was about to pack up my Bears stuff for the year, like I do at the end of every year, after Monday night.  I had already switched over to the Bulls & Blackhawks ski cap combo for the remainder of the year.  I want to see what else happens from now until the Monday after the season is over.  This is going to turn out to be the most exciting time of this year for this team, along with the offseason that follows, to see how quickly this team is dismantled, and how high up the ladder it goes.

This is really all we can hope for at this point.  Sure, it would be nice to beat Detroit, and/or Minnesota.  I love to see the Bears win any week, but it won’t mean anything.  Even if we win one of the last 2 games with Claussen at QB, assuming he’ll play next week too, don’t think the fate will be changing for anyone involved.  Monitoring that situation becomes our playoffs… that sucks.

Final Score Prediction–>  Lions 31 Bears 17

Ace in the Hole–>  Matt Forte who will have the majority of the Bears offensive yardage plus their 2 TDs

Like I said, I think this final score is about the same with Cutler.  He has proven to add no value to this floundering team.  Let’s see if somebody who hasn’t started an NFL game in I believe 4 years can.  That would be sad, but that is another emotion you could pin on this season.  At least this game isn’t on national TV, although I do think we get Aikman & Buck for this one.  At the very least, the Bears have been interesting to talk about, for all the wrong reasons, and that IS sad.  11 days until the firings begin…

    Key to the gme: Defense

With CBC benched, I think the Bears will have new life and keep it close. Forte will be the center of the offense and Detroit knows it. Thats why Jimmy has to bare the load. Finally, a message sent to CBC that the world does not revovle around you.

    GO Bears!!!

Go Long, Kyle Long, on the Bears.
The fight in the trenches will be entertaining and might just surprise everyone this week.
(Now I need to go take my meds…)

  3. Jimmy "Santa" Claussen

    Bears 21 Lions 35
Ace in the hole: Jimmy Claussen – 300+ yds, 3 TDs
The offense will be inspired with Claussen at the helm, but the defense will be porous like always. Lions will have their way on offense, but Claussen will do well.
