December 17, 2023: Not Again

Yes, again. The Bears had another 10 point lead in the 4th quarter, and lost the game… for the 3rd time this season. How did this happen? Why did this happen? Now what?

I knew it. The minute I start to get excited about the Bears, BAM… I think I was a year early. Maybe next year the Bears will be a playoff team; it certainly is not going to happen this year. Left for dead a while ago, we got up for a minute, but… nah, not happening. How the hell can Tonyan drop that pass?!?! I would have cut his ass right after the game. And Mooney??? This kid has had plenty of chances to make plays, but most times, comes up short. Dropping a Hail Mary pass usually doesn’t qualify for blowing it, but… he was by himself, on the floor, and the ball is on his chest… and he drops it!!! Only us man, only us…

The defense played their ass off, most of the game. That long pass to Cooper hurt, and many targets to Njoku, but other than that… can’t be perfect; need the offense to pitch in. I felt like Fields played OK… good enough to win. The bottom line is that the Bears still don’t know how to close out a game consistently; I was hoping the Bears would figure that out this year… at least win the games that we should win, meaning, the ones we’re leading by double digits in the 4th quarter!!! Blowing these type of games, multiple times… something has got to give.

Do we still have to have patience? Yes, this year was a disappointment, but the future still looks bright, no? Do we still need to give Fields time? Does the coaching staff deserve more time? The Bears roster will improve again this offseason; will that be enough? I still want to believe Fields is the guy, and although you can’t put this one on him entirely, winning is still part of a successful QB’s formula. He should get credit when we win; he should get blame when we lose… regardless of how much personally he contributed to each. He is the QB. Same goes for the coach and GM, and honestly, every player if you think about it. On great teams, everybody takes accountability; there is no passing the buck. I do like that about Fields; he owns it… whether or not he should. The coaching staff? Not so much. So, do we know what has to happen this offseason?

The season is not officially over, but for all intensive purposes, donezo. Will I still watch the rest of the games? Sure. Well, Christmas Eve will be tough, but I’ll tune in when I can. The defense has surely made an impression. The rest of the team and coaches… well, not sure how many decisions have already been made in the heads of the brass, but the picture is getting clearer, no? Wait, so should Fields go or stay? Eberflus? Getsy? I’ll have time to make my decisions; I think I know where I’m leaning. Much more to come on that… Still can’t F-ing believe we lost this damn game… sucks.
