December 17, 2022: Depressing

With the rare back to back matchup with the same team, on the same court, we have figured out one thing this week: the Knicks are better than the Bulls. If that’s not depressing enough, how about seeing the Bulls get smashed in the 2nd of those matchups on Friday night at the UC? The Bulls lost by 23 points, and it wasn’t that close. Now imagine being there in person for this debacle; yeah, like I said, fun times in Chicago sports right now.

The Bulls were the one team we could count on this year. Coming off a playoff appearance last year, the Bulls were going to take the next step this year. Well, they are taking the next step, unfortunately, it’s off of a cliff. Let’s just be honest. This team looks like absolute dog shit. The Bulls got outscored by 18 points in the 2nd half of this one, showing absolutely no heart. I’m not sure there is something worse that can be said about a team. When you say a team has no heart, you are giving out the biggest insult that you can. Yeah, that’s where I’m at with this team.

After a loss like this, their 3rd loss in a row, part of an 11-17 start, everybody should be on the hook… everybody. I guess we can say that the honeymoon is over for AKME? Arturas Karnisovas & Marc Eversley as they’re better known, the Bulls front office, has to look in the mirror. They need to have a heart to heart with themselves. Maybe after that discussion, they’ll come up with the same conclusion that some have mentioned; it’s time to blow it up. They have to accept the mistakes they have made: the acquisition of Vooch, the max signing of Zach… is it too soon for me to get to this point? Maybe if there was one team in Chicago that was doing anything positive, but no. No, the Bulls were IT, and now they’re… doggie doo doo. I will give them this: AKME hasn’t sat still… they HAVE done stuff. Well, something needs to be done; I expect a shake up of this team sooner than later.

As we head down the accountability ladder, how about Billy Donovan? I talked about him a few days ago, and yeah, he’s not out of the spotlight. The Bulls got outrebounded 50-39 on Friday night; that’s not horrible right? They got outrebounded 15-2 on the offensive glass; who wants it more??? Obviously NOT the Bulls. But how can you get an offensive rebound when your whole team is standing around the perimeter? Welcome to the current day NBA I guess? Shoot more three pointers Billy says, but the roster doesn’t have 3 point shooters… come again? Like I said, something has got to give.

Of course, the players on the court, the big boys making the big money, have to shoulder this load too, and that starts with Zach Lavine, the 37M dollar man. He is the personification of lazy, I’m sorry. I know I pick on him a lot, but.. when you invest the amount of money the Bulls have in a guy, there is a certain level of expectations; Zach comes up short across the board. Lazy passes, lazy defense which results in lazy fouls, lazy shot selection… there is no desire oozing out of his pores, only his trademark jog in his ugly ass New Balance shoes. DD has came back down to earth; we knew he couldn’t repeat last year. Vooch… I’m not even going to go there. With Lonzo Ball nowhere near returning (do we blame AKME for getting damaged goods?), and with one player not being the answer anyways, this Bulls team is in a world of hurt.

The loudest cheer of the night came when Derrick Rose entered the game, and subsequently hit a 3 point basket. I casually clapped. Respect due to Derrick no doubt, but sorry if I’m not cheering my heart out for a guy when my team just got flat out embarrassed on the court. Kind of like how can I cheer for Ovechkin’s 800th goal when the Hawks are living in the basement? Is THIS what we have to look forward to this year? Cheering for opponents in our home stadium? What universe am I living in? That NBA title, #7 for the Bulls, that seemed in our grasp before Derrick Rose got hurt, which seemed back in play after an awesome start last year, is right back where it was when Tim Floyd took over as coach of the team: a fricking pipe dream. Somebody wake us up from this nightmare…
