December 17, 2021: Week 15 Preview Vikings at Bears

posted in: Bears | 0

Playing out the string… rooting for whoever plays the Packers… cheering for my fantasy football players… hoping to enjoy the Super Bowl… unfortunately, we’re not unfamiliar with the NFL season playing out this way. I’d much rather be rooting for the Bears in the playoffs again, one year, and consistently, most years… but, not there yet… not there yet.

Yet as we head down the stretch in this lost season, we look forward to the future. Most importantly, we hope that Justin Fields can be that guy that will lead us to the playoffs on a consistent basis; the only way we’re going to find out, the only way Fields is going to be better, is by playing… and winning… and of course, not getting hurt. There will be changes after the year is over, that much is certain; one of them certainly has to be our mind set. The mind set needs to change to building around the QB; putting him in the best position to succeed, giving him all the support on and off the field that is necessary. I believe this is the best path forward, but oh yeah, we still do have some games to play… someone tell that to ARob…

The Vikings come in as 6 point favorites; whatever… The Vikings are flaky though. It feels like they should be a lot better, have a better record, but… they don’t. The other week I thought they would for sure beat the Niners, yet… you had Kirk Cousins lining up under the guard in a big moment; things that make you go hmmm. Their RB is a stud, but he’s been hurt; he looks to be healthy this week, and that means trouble for a Hicks-Mack-less defense. Roquan will do everything in his power, Quinn will keep shooting for the Bears single season sack record, and Jaylon should be able to hold down one of the Vikings WRs, but… not sure it will be enough.

Then there’s Fields and the offense, which will be without ARob this week; some may say they’ve been without him most of the year. Yes, he’s been hurt, but after seeing that play last week in Green Bay, he certainly looks checked out too. What’s up with that? I didn’t see his big mouth go on Twitter to defend it… that says a lot. He too, appears to be spending his last few games on the Bears roster. It doesn’t make sense though… now that he finally has a QB who can throw the ball down the field; yes, say what you want about the offensive play calling, but… don’t the WRs have to get open too? And someone like ARob, who wants to get paid like a #1 WR, has to make those tough catches, a lot of those that he has NOT made… Guess I’m glad that we didn’t invest in Allen; hoping other WRs will see the promise with Fields and want to come here. Mooney is great and all, but the WR position will be one in need in 2022.

Final Score Prediction: Vikings 31 Bears 21

Ace in the Hole: Jakeem Grant 100+total yds and 1 TD (and also because I’m starting him on one of my fantasy teams in the playoffs)

Why couldn’t this game just be on noon on Sunday? Why do we have to be on national TV again? We don’t deserve to be. Although I do have good national TV memories against the Vikings, whether it’s McMahon coming off the bench in the “RollerDome” or the 2018 defense absolutely shutting them down in frigid conditions at Soldier Field. When it comes to the big picture, the Vikings aren’t much different than us, sitting right ahead of the Lions, in a division, unfortunately, owned by the Packers. Misery loves company… Bear Down!!!
