December 17, 2017: Just Not Ready

posted in: Bears | 1

Yes, so last week was a fluke for these 2017 Bears.  This week we were back to normal against the Detroit Lions.  It wasn’t pretty.  At the end of the day, this team is just not ready to play a good level of football.

There are flashes… there were flashes against Detroit.  The defensive stands limiting them to 3 points.  The forced fumble late in the first half making Detroit pay for trying to pad their lead.  The nice throws Mitch made under pressure into a tight spot for a reception.  The nice return by Cohen called back by a penalty.  The nice runs by Howard… wait, there wasn’t that many of them.

Loggans is in a no win situation.  Everybody bitches, me included, when Trubisky is not throwing enough, yet, the second they go away from the running game, we complain about that too.  We ran all over Detroit the last time we played them.  They’ve been getting run over the past 5-6 weeks on the ground.  We SHOULD have run the ball down their throats this week; we didn’t though… and go figure, they ran the ball OK on us.  It wasn’t a very pretty game.

And then the penalties… geez.  It’s almost like, we’re barely good enough to compete, and then the refs have to call BS against us all game long.  It’s a very easy way for the officials to control a game like this; a game when you have a team that is not that good… where a few penalties here and there can really hamstring you.  Yes, we’re used to it at this point.  Usually it doesn’t even take the penalties to screw us; we normally do that ourselves.  We did some of that too.

The picks Mitch… yeah, that was ugly too.  Turnovers plus penalties equals disaster for an average team.  Yet, when all is said and done, when we look at the Bears record which will most likely be 5-11 this year (unless the Vikings won’t have anything to play for), they are NOT an average team.  No, they remain a very below average team, regardless of how close I, or anybody else, think they are to being a good team.  At the end of the day, the wins and losses tell the only story that counts.

And that’s why Fox and crew should be gone.  Trestman had better numbers?  Yes, he had a lot more talent when he walked in the door, but still.  This year’s team is not THAT bad talent wise in my opinion; it’s been the best of the bunch for the Fox years.  Yet, the results are the same.  I liked Fox when we got him; he hasn’t shown me much since he’s been here.  Will we give him another chance?

It feels like the perfect time to make the switch, with Trubisky’s first full year coming next year.  The only problem is, picking the right coach.  We cannot mess this up.  I’m not saying we messed up picking Fox.. it didn’t work out.  We definitely messed up picking Trestman.  We messed up hiring Emery too.  Pace???  Well, if he hasn’t hitched himself exclusively to Trubisky, he’ll have one more person to hitch his success on, and that will be the coach that he chooses.  HE should be allowed to make the final call.

Then Pace will have HIS QB and HIS coach; was Fox really his call?  Either way, you got your man at QB, now get your man at coach.  We’ll have another good draft position this year; this is now YOUR team Pace.  No more excuses.  We expect success immediately starting next year.  No more of this double digit loss crap.  I thought we’d be ready this year… but guess we’ll have to wait another.  Tired of waiting… Bear Down!

Definite flashes again vs the lions, but how times can we talk about the same stuff? Double digit penalties again? Really? Yes, some of the BS variety, but this Bears team is just not disciplined. That has to fall somewhat on fox, too. And the play calling? Howard only gets 10 carries? That is unacceptable. 37 yards in 10 carries is not horrible. Cohen only gets 2? The Bears were not getting killed. For some reason, they went away from the game plan and had MTru throw the ball 46 times. The picks were killers. He has to learn from them. At the end of day, too many things add up to these coaches need to go. You can make all the excuses in the world for fox not having enough talent or whatever, but he better be gone after game 16…same with dowell. Pace has this offseason to save his job. Hire his coach. Draft great. Make a free agent splash. No more excuses for anyone. This waiting game sucks and needs to end…immediately! BEAR DOWN!!!
