One thing we know about our Hawks is that you can never count them out.  Down 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, 4-3… 4 separate times trailing by a goal… didn’t matter.  The Blackhawks beat the Blues on Saturday night in St. Louis 6-4 in a vintage performance.

I think it has hurt us over the years; that supreme confidence.  I think it has been a part of some of the playoff holes we’ve dug ourselves; some we’re able to come back from, some we’re not.  As if we needed another reason to hate St. Louis, the Blues were responsible for one of those losses.  They took us out in 7 last year with a goal of the stick of another ex-Hawk Troy Brouwer.  That’s pretty hard to forget.  I’m sure that’s on the minds of the Hawks as they roll into town.  It didn’t start out well.

A goal in the 1st minute of the 1st period put us in an immediate deficit.  But it was the goal in the last minute of the 1st period that tied it.  Rasmussen with a nice scrappy goal in front tied it heading to the locker room for intermission.  The next goal was sick.  A Blues shot off a broken stick past Darling.  But again, the Hawks never wavered, and it was one of the stars that made sure.

Patrick Kane to the 5 hole for his first goal in 9 games.  He sure looked good in this game.  He was flying around, had a few other great chances; believe he went goal post on one, and got tripped on another.  Then after another Blues goal, it was essentially an open net goal for Campbell after some nice Hawks passing, with an honorable mention to Toews tying up the man in front.  Then the Blues scored their last minute goal, and took a 4-3 lead to the 3rd.

Hammer Time tied it 1 minute into the 3rd.  He almost had another goal earlier in the game, right off the goalie’s shoulder.  This is the way the game stood, until just less than 5 minutes into the 3rd.  Hinostroza got the GWG with a beautiful skate to stick backhander.  Bread Man with an empty netter, and that’s your ball game.  I was happy to watch most of this one.

It was fun.  It was fun to beat St. Louis; it was only their 2nd loss at home in regulation this year.  With the win, the Hawks tallied their 45th and 46th points.  That’s good for best in the West.  That’s good for best in the NHL.  Depth is a big deal.

With Anisimov going down early in this one, other guys had to step up.  We already mentioned Hinostroza, the local boy with the gamer winner, who when playing with Hossa and Hartman, makes up the famous Triple H line.  It is Desjardins playing here for less money, playing some good minutes.  It was Rasmussen mentioned above getting a scrappy goal, with an assist from Panik on that 3rd line.  It’s Kruger taking one of his body.  It’s the non-core Hawks that will be the key to another Cup run.  We know what to expect from the core, and for the most part, they will be there.  But when you have 3rd and 4th liners contributing regularly, you have something special.  I like this Hawks team, and I like their chances this year for that reason.

I was going to write about the Bulls, but I really don’t feel like talking about them.  It’s a much more happier blog when we’re talking Blackhawks.  They bring me joy.  I wish I could watch every game start to finish, but I’ll be happy with the ones that I do.  Nice win boys.  Keep it going.  Go Hawks!

Definitely not a good strategy to have falling behind and digging holes, but the confidence the Bhawks have, not to mention the talent, makes it hard to think that they are ever out of a game or series. It has come back to bite them before, but how good does it feel to never think they are done? We are lucky to be able to watch this Bhawks team over the last 8 or 9 years. To know that the playoffs are a lock. To know that the Bhawks can win another Cup this year. It feels pretty damn good, and if their confidence is so high, why shouldnt ours be as fans? I love watching the Bhawks and hope this year brings a 4th Cup back to sWeet home Chicago!
