December 13, 2023: Bowling Time

How excited are you about College Football Bowl season? Well, for the first time in a long time, I am very excited; I wonder why… I remember… back in the day, my brother and I would simulate every single bowl game. I’m trying to remember the details… maybe it was in the back yard; maybe we were playing inside. I also remember watching all the bowl games on New Year’s Day; that was fun. As the years passed by, more and more bowl games have been added. Hilarious some of these bowls… Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Pop Tarts Bowl. Even the classic bowl games have to have the sponsor’s name in the title, like the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl or the Taxslayer Gator Bowl. What has this world come to? Well, money is behind it, no doubt, this same money that attracts me to every one of these wacky bowl games this time around.

Yes, I will be betting on some bowl games. I toy with the idea of betting on every single one… that would be stupid… maybe. I only have a few days to make that decision, as bowl season will kickoff on Saturday December 16th with Georgia Southern vs Ohio. I’ve been reading a lot about the games. I’ve been reading a lot about the transfer portal. I’ve been listening to many experts talk bowl games. I’ve been taking notes. I’ve already played two games: San Jose St -9.5 and Washington +4.5. I plan to play a good number more. Why San Jose St? Well, they finished tied with Boise St and UNLV at the top of the Mountain West. The way that league figured out the participants in the league’s title game was by… wait for it… computer calculation. And yep, you guessed it… San Jose St was left out. Now they get to take the field with something to prove against a Coastal Carolina team with many guys in the portal; go figure. And Washington… well, they were disrespected against Oregon in their 2nd matchup, and they prevailed. Now, they’re screwed playing Texas in what is almost a home game for the Longhorns. Texas is no slouch, but this Huskies team has something… I think. I was pondering a play on them to win it all… maybe still. But, I think this game is a dogfight, and will gladly take the points.

I think about the Michigan Alabama game… With Harbaugh and his bowl record favored over Saban and his. With a month of prep, coming in as an underdog, seems kind of crazy to bet against Bama, but… that’s exactly what I WANT to do. Maybe the line will head to a pick-em before game time because of people with this same line of thinking. Michigan remains a 1.5 point favorite. You remember what happened to the Wolverines last year right?

I can go on… with plenty of these games and everything I’ve read/heard about them, but we wait. As Saturday approaches, we wait for bowling time to begin. Sit back and enjoy!
