December 13, 2018: Cold Dish

As the Bears closed out their victory over the Rams on Sunday night, my mind immediately went to next Sunday.  Sure, beating the Rams was fun; they are the best team in the NFL record wise.  To flex on them in front of a national TV audience made me smile.  Thinking about this upcoming Sunday, that smile turned to a smirk.

A lot has happened since Week 1…  Remember what happened week 1?  Yeah, it was pretty painful at the time.  But, I did say I felt like it that was the last time something like that was going to happen.  That the promise shown in that first game of the Nagy-Trubisky era would blossom into something more.  Mostly I thought we’d see this happen next year; I didn’t know it would happen so soon.  Our world class defense has helped that.  But now, we sit atop the NFC North (I keep wanting to say Central).  We’re the 3rd best team in the NFC record wise.  And now we, WE, have a chance to clinch the division and end our rivals’ season at the same time… at home in Soldier Field in front of thousands of hungry Bear fans; yeah, I’m in big time anticipation mode right now.  I kind of relate it to how my 6 year old feels right now, with Christmas a mere 12 days away; at least I only have to wait 3 more days to get what will hopefully be the first of many presents from this Bears team.

It’s Bears Packers week.  Once the 80s passed, and the Packers got lucky with a franchise QB… and now another franchise QB… and the Bears got worse, all we asked for was a 2-14 season… as long as those 2 wins came against the cheese.  I hate the Packers; it’s no secret.  To lose a game like that week 1 was bad enough; for it to be at the hands of the Packers, made it 10x as bad.  Yeah, that was only the latest installment of heartbreak dished out to us by the cheeseheads.  How many times have they ended our season in recent history?  What is their record against us since Favre came to Green Bay?  Who won the biggest game in the rivalry’s history in the NFC Championship game?  Yeah, to say we owe them one, is an understatement.  It’s about time to turn the tables on this rivalry.

I can’t wait… have been thinking about it all fricking week.  Tomorrow, when I write my game preview, I’ll say I’ll be happy with any type of Bears win… even a squeaker by 1 point.  Although that will be true, I want a massacre.  I want to pound them into the ground.  I want them to remember this beating for years.  Yeah, I still remember that beating in Green Bay in the Trestman era… kind of like that.  I want to sack Rodgers multiple times, to the point where they just bench him for the 2nd half because they don’t want him to get hurt, and their season is over anyways.  I want multiple TDs on defense.  I want Trubisky to outplay Rodgers.  I’m talking a blowout of epic proportions.  I want to bring in our 3rd string RB and see him run for a 50 yd TD as we’re trying to run out the clock.  Sunday can’t come soon enough…

Yeah, it’s a little thing I’d like to call payback; I yearn to see that cold dish we serve the cheese on Sunday.  This is our time.  It’s time to put an emphatic stamp on this regular season.  Checking this box against the Packers would be the sweetest.  Seeing them walk off Soldier Field with their heads hanging, with their postseason chances officially dashed… inject it into my veins.  Leaving them in a pile of green and yellow in our rear view mirror as we look forward to the promised land of the playoffs… yes sir.  Let’s make it happen boys.  Bear Down!!!
