December 13, 2016: The Return of Thibs

posted in: Bulls | 1

Is it wrong of me to be a little happy that the Wolves beat the Bulls tonight?  Probably, but it’s true.  I would never root against the Bulls, but seeing Thibs on that sideline brought me back.  Seeing him come back to the UC and stick it to the Bulls provided me some level of satisfaction; I’m sure Thibs would agree.

Maybe it should have pissed me off.  Maybe it should have reminded me of one of the biggest coaching mistakes the Bulls have ever made.  We had him.  Yeah, I know his team is off to a slow start, but I can guarantee you one thing; the arrow is pointed up in Minnesota.  Can we say the same here?

The Bulls looked old and slow, minus Jimmy Buckets of course.  What the hell was Wade taking that long 3 pointer for down the stretch?  Shaking my damn head.  Maybe it wasn’t the Bulls looking slow as much as the Wolves looking quick.  They have a ton of young talent on this team.  With the right coaching, this team will do big things.  They have that now; they will continue to improve.  What about us?

The Bulls have been doing fairly well this year.  Yes, they’ve laid some eggs to some bad teams, but they’ve beaten some good ones.  Still, I’m not feeling like this Bulls team can do any better than any of the teams the past number of years.  Well, if we’re specifically talking about last year, yes, I do expect them to do better.  They better make the damn playoffs.  Anything less than that would be embarrassing… kind of like last year.

Are you still missing Thibs?  Am I the only one?  Sorry I’m still not jumping up and down about our current coach.  If you gave me a choice between Thibs and Fredberg, I would choose Thibs 100 out of 100 times.  That is a fact.  We had a strong personality pacing in front of that scorer’s table.  We had one of the best coaches in the NBA.  Now, we have a guy in a position.  He hasn’t proved to be anything more than that yet.  I hope he does.  Just because I would choose Thibs over him, just as any smart person would do, doesn’t mean I’m not rooting for him.  It’s just… he’s nothing special.  He’s Erik Spolestra… Tyron Lue…  Yes, those guys have “won” titles, so I guess that’s what we’re going for?  Well, there is something else in common with those 2 guys too… we don’t have him on our team.

Thibs had the 2nd best winning percentage of any Bulls head coach.  He had the 3rd best playoff winning percentage… being edged out by Skiles.  But let’s remember what was left of those Bulls teams in a lot of those playoff runs.  Thibs squeezed the most anybody could out of our guys.  Yes, he may have ran some into the ground, but I’m not hearing any of that noise right now, as Hoiberg plays the heck out of Buckets…

Seeing Buckets, Taj, Niko, and Doug, the last 4 of the Thibs era, brought back memories.  After not playing Buckets in his rookie year, Thibs began to lean on him in his 2nd; Butler sprouted from there.  As far as Taj goes, he was the ultimate Thibs guy.  He would choose him over more talented offensive players down the stretch.  I have nothing but respect for Taj.  Niko… yeah, Thibs got the most out of him; he hasn’t been the same since.  Blame it on the coach?  I don’t know.  And then there’s Dougie… maybe the last straw in the fallout between Thibs and GarPax.  He didn’t want to play him, and didn’t… while the Bulls traded 2 first round picks for him, thinking he was going to be something.  Well, jury is still out, but so far, the person who was right isn’t on this team any more.

I haven’t mentioned Thibs in a while, but seeing him back, brought back some strong feelings.  Congrats on the win Thibs, and good luck in Minny.  Honestly, if I had the choice of what team I would like to have right now… yeah, I love my damn Bulls, and wouldn’t choose anybody over them, I’m just saying.  Now, back to the past their prime version of Wade and Rondo, and the great thing called Hoiball.  Thanks Garpax.

Garpax are fools and fredberg is their puppet. Thibs was too stubborn so he got axed. Makes no sense but that is the reality of it. Now, the Bulls are no better off than they were when thibs was here. In fact, they are probably worse. Old vets past their prime and young guys that are not playing up to potential. Meanwhile, thibs has a roster full of young talent that he will mold into a playoff team, if not this year, the following for sure. Yes, the Bulls should make the playoffs this year, but is that enough? We know damn well they have no shot of beating half the teams that make the playoffs in a 7 game series. Yeah, it sucks to say it, but the truth hurts. They beat some good teams and lose to bottom feeders. This team is average just like their coach. Is that what we have to settle for? It should not be, but what is being done to change things? Signing wade and rondo? Yeah, way to fill the seats garpax, but they will not get near the eastern conference finals, let alone the nba finals. Pat yourselves on the back when the Bulls make the playoffs, but then kick yourselves in the ass to get the Bulls back to the elite level of what the nba is now!
