No, I’m not pushing some website, but I actually got a last minute ticket offer last night for the Bulls game. Two free tickets… two hours to game time… 15 minutes away from the United Center… oh yeah, we could make that work.
I already had the Lester post locked and loaded… it was ready to be posted today. However, attending a game in person will trump almost any other post, so here it is; also explains the delay. The Lester and Cubs gushing will have to wait…
So, we finished dinner, walked the dog, and threw our Bulls jerseys on. My son and I were ready to rock. Second time this week in the UC, and 1st Bulls home game since Game 5 last year vs the Wizards. We got there about 20 minutes before gametime, and of course, found some free parking. No fricking way I’m paying $25 to park, when there is free parking less than a block away. It was wide open prior to the concert, but some Bulls fans take advantage of this parking too. Love the new electronic video board outside the United Center by the way. My son was loving the big Bulls logo on the board, which then flashed through pictures of Jordan, Pippen, and the Bulls championship trophies. For the concert, it shows pictures of the artist performing, while for Hawks games, it will flash through Blackhawks videos. It’s a very nice upgrade.
Into the stadium we went… no more paper tickets necessary by the way. I showed the electronic tickets on my phone, and we were zapped in. The cool thing is you do get an actual ticket too, well sort of. Once they zap you in, a ticket will print from their handheld device, which you use to find your seat, and/or show to the usher to prove where you sit. I will be able to save this and add it to the collection already building of tickets from games that my son has attended. After watching a quartet of high school kids play two trumpets, a trombone, and a tuba, we made it to our seats.
The seats were actually one row behind the seats we had in our first year as Bulls season ticket holders. Even though it is the 300 level, they are very nice seats… you got the true fans up there… or just ones hanging out at the bar getting drunk. There’s always plenty of both types, and a lot of them are one and the same.

On to the opening ceremonies… the anthem was sang beautifully. My son has never made it through an anthem in person and not cried; I’d like to think he’s a little patriot, but it’s probably more related to the loud noise and cheering. He made it through this time! He only cried one time on this night, and that was when the Bulls scored 100 points to get everybody a Big Mac, which almost always gets the loudest cheer. The intro of the Nets was non-eventful except for a little cheering for ex-Illini Deron Williams, and a little booing for KG. Then the Bulls video played, with the Bulls rumbling through downtown Chicago on their way to the UC. My son loves it, and he also loved the announcement of the starting lineup, most of which he already knows. After some banging on the drum by Benny the Bull, we were ready for the tipoff.
After the Nets jumped out quickly, the Bulls came back, and eventually tied the game by the half. The 2nd half was all Bulls. Again, these 2 teams are in different classes right now; even though on some nights in the NBA that doesn’t matter. The good thing about the Thibs Bulls, is that they usually beat teams they should beat, especially at home. This year hadn’t gone exactly like that, but it did on this night. The Bulls recorded their most rebounds of the season as they held the Nets to the lowest FG% by an opponent this year. That is Buls basketball.
Another thing of note, was the semi-return of aggressive DRose. He drove to the lane, had some nice layups, a few floaters, made some nice passes, and took some 3 pointers in rhythm. I expect to see more and more of this DRose as the season continues. Couple that with Jimmy Buckets, who was impressive himself in this one, and the Bulls backcourt is top notch.
So the Bulls gave us a W; always important, especially for games that I attend in person. As we returned home, my son told me he had fun at the Bulls game; which was awesome. He also told my wife who he saw tonight… Pau Gasol, DRose, Jimmy Butler, and Benny the Bull. As we took our Rose jerseys off, I was happy. I was happy that the Bulls won, and more importantly, I was happy to have some fun father-son time. I look forward to many more of both.
