The Cubs have now lost 3 straight series. I was thinking one step forward, two steps back… or maybe like running in place, but then I thought of one of the Curious George books I read to my son, where he jumps on the moving walkway in the airport, but he’s going the wrong way. That’s kind of how I see it.
I mean, the Cubs should be blowing the rest of the division away… but they’re not. They’re seemingly fighting to stay close, instead of just stepping on the gas… or jumping on that moving walkway headed away from the pack. Yes, the lead is still 1.5 games; for that I am thankful. But now, there are 2 teams that close, the Brew Crew and the Cards. I’m thinking this may be what the rest of the season will look like.
I was so happy to stay up for the 2nd game of this series. But of course… the one game I stay up the whole time for I see a Cubs loss; it didn’t start off well right out of the gates. It was like the 1st half Cubs giving up all those 1st inning runs when Quintana gave up a 3 run bomb to Buster. The Cubs did battle back, but the bullpen let the Giants add on to.
I liked how Joe threw Edwards right back in the fire, even after all his struggles. After Koji gave up 2 hits, and was removed for a neck injury which he is now on the DL for, Joe went to Carl. 1st and 3rd nobody out. He ended up doing well… only allowing the guy from 3rd to score; still one more run for the G Men. The next guy Joe went to was our trade deadline acquisition Justin Wilson. He has not been good.
I am a 50 plus aged man and I was already sitting at the table when she entered the restaurant. cialis generic 10mg However for those who required remain energetic, this presence kinds of dysfunction get viagra online disables them from performing well with restriction their particular motor capacity. I remember Montgomery’s first appearance last year, surrendering a 3 run bomb in Milwaukee; that was definitely not a good first impression. He ended up being OK though. Still waiting for Justin Wilson to show me something. I’m not going to double check, but it feels like he’s given up a run in each appearance so far. Maybe he’s just settling in as Joe tries to figure out his role too… More to come.
We’ll be leaning heavily on the other ex-Tiger on the roster. I was sitting there watching the end of the rubber match Wednesday, when Willson Contreras hit a ground out. It’s bad enough we were losing the game, but then to see Willson grab his hamstring… and go down writhing in pain… F me. He has been the Cubs MVP this year, especially lately. He’s been carrying us. Now, he’s out… for how long? We can only hope it’s only 4-6 weeks…
Losing him hurts, not only for his offense, but his catching of the staff, his handling of base runners, and his emotions which the Cubs seem to need a lot more of this year. Contreras brings it, but who else does? Back to that 2nd game for a minute… it sure looked like the Cubs were sleep walking in that one. Maddon said something along those lines too. It was a disappointing performance. It was the way the Cubs looked for most of the first half. It’s the way the Cubs cannot afford to look from here on out. And without Willson…. we need the other MVPs on this team full of potential MVPs to do their thing.
Yes, the Cubs are still in first place; I’m repeating it for my own benefit. But it certainly feels like this will be a dog fight for the rest of the year, especially without Willson. There is no extending the lead. There is no resting guys for the playoffs. There will be a struggle to win each and every game this year. There needs to be an urgency NOW, to get those precious Ws. We’re not in 2016 any more… but that doesn’t mean we still can’t get it done; we’re just going to have to work a little harder to get there. Time to step it up boys, and start heading the right way… Go Cubs!!!

3-6 after their hot start out of the break. The Cubs lead is 1.5 games but getting tighter as the cards and bucs join the brewcrew in pursuit. Q cannot put us behind the 8 ball early in games, like has been the Cubs way in the first half. Koji now on the dl and the bullpen is looking questionable after being good for most of the year. Lefty Wilson has not been good. It has seemed like a run an inning but has been 4 games played, 4 innings, 3 runs, and a 4.50 era. He has to be better. Losing Willson hurts…bad. He has been the best Cub this year, especially so far in the 2nd half. Timing is everything, and right now it is not good. Still have not heard how bad or how long, but it certainly seems like some extended dl time. He will be missed for sure, but how smart was it of the Cubs to pick up Avila as a backup. He is a starter on 90% of the other teams and will be with the Cubs now. Caratini will serve as the backup. Time for everybody to step up their game, but especially Bryant and Rizzo. They are the stars and leaders of this club. They need to play better… they will play better. The Cubs still are in 1st, but it does seem like it might come down to the last week or so. More great experience for these young Cubs. Time to shine bright like you did last year on the biggest stage! GO CUBS GO!!!
