August 6, 2023: When It Rains

I kind of feel bad for the White Sox and their fans; I really do. I said it before… I can talk shit about them, because, you know, it’s a Chicago thing, but man… when it rains, it pours on the South Side. It’s bad enough that the Sox have totally squandered their “championship window” without one playoff series victory. On Saturday night in Cleveland, it was the latest installation of the Sox literally getting their ass kicked on the field.

It’s hard not to like the Cleveland broadcaster’s call… “Down Goes Anderson, Down Goes Anderson”… that was an epic call. To see two guys square off like that… you just don’t see that in baseball. Hockey? Sure. But on the baseball field? It’s really rare. Like how the umpire just backed away too; ding, ding. Kind of weird to see the whole Sox team just let them have it out too. I saw people talking crap about that, but hey, mono y mono man… let them get at it. Unfortunately for the Sox though, their guy, Mr. Anderson, got hit on the button and went down like a ton of bricks; ouch! Unless Timmy can jumpstart his career again, he will always be known for this. It’s not the first time though.

It was just the anniversary of the whole Nolan Ryan & Robin Ventura fight, if you want to call it that. Poor Robin… he was a really good player; honestly, one of my favorite Sox players over the years… he sucked as a manager, but that’s another story. Yeah, his swing from the left side was sweet, and he played a pretty good hot corner. However, he made the mistake of rushing the mound against big Nolan, who proceeded to put him in a headlock and beat on him… I like the Starting Lineups figurines they made of that incident… haha. It will be replayed over and over, every year, from here on out. It was a moment Ventura will never live down.

And then of course we had the whole Michael Barrett & AJ Pierzynski thing. Sure, AJ helped bring a World Series title to the Sox, but I’ll always remember him as the guy that took a right hand to the jaw after he ran his mouth. I had that picture as a screen saver for many months. Speaking about smiling, that’s what I do every time I think of that moment. Big cry baby, trouble maker got what was coming… haha. I will always remember Michael Barrett for that, and no, not for the fights with his teammates, ok? Haha…

And now we have Jose Ramirez, who is no slouch by the way, meaning, he’s one of baseball’s top players, tagging Tim Anderson with a right hook to the jaw; poor Timmy got weak in the legs after that one. It happens to the best of us, but man… as if this season wasn’t hard enough for Sox fans. Now this?

And now there are rumors coming out of the Sox clubhouse from a recently traded reliever? It really does pour when it rains! Grandal not helping the pitchers, Eloy not a hard worker, Moncada a lazy dog…. I did see some stat about Moncada the other day about his speed… this guy JayCuda on Twitter; great follow btw. He said now, both Grandal and Daniel Vogelbach (yes, big boy) have a higher 1st to 3rd speed than Yoan… wow, just wow. It will get uglier before it gets better I fear. I have some thoughts about cleaning this thing up, but that will have to wait until another day. For now, whew… let’s just say I’m glad to be a Cubs fan right about now. Good luck over there…
