August 5, 2017: 1130 Boys

They did it again.  Another 1130am start time on Saturday, another solid performance.  It’s amazing the difference between games at that times vs games at any other times.  It was great.

I’m really proud of the way they are hitting my pitching now.  Every single kid hit the ball; no need to go to the tee in the 3rd inning.  That may have been a first.  The only problem during that half of the third inning was when a rat ran across home plate.  It wasn’t a huge, alley rat; maybe it was a baby?  To see that sucker scurrying across home plate, then back across towards the stands, running right past a small dog, was pretty wild.  It would get wilder…

But yes, every kid hit the ball.  Most of them ran pretty good too.  I tried to pump them up, telling them we only have 2 more games left this year.  They really made a nice effort on Saturday.  The fielding was pretty solid too.  The team we played had beaten us earlier this year, according to my scoring system.  That would NOT be the case today.  We took them out.  The only out they got was one that was hit directly to first base; OK, maybe they got one more.  We turned in another 5-6 outs on defense, giving us that W.  Now onto the Championship game…

But before that, back to the postgame festivities.  There were 2 sets of cupcakes for 2 birthdays that the kids & fans scarfed on.  One kid turned 7, while the other turned 5.  Everybody sang happy birthday to them; it was a nice team moment.  Having some family in attendance was nice too, as we all headed to the playground after the cupcakes.

I missed what happened next; I had to take the equipment bag in.  But, a pitbull was loose, and ended up having a small dog in its mouth, as the owners panicked.  The guy reached in and eventually broke it up, not before getting bit on the arm.  Police and fireman showed up; it was quite the scene.  Thankfully, the gates were closed to the playground; at least it wasn’t a kid in its mouth.  Not sure what happens to that dog at this point, or its owners for that matter.  I was joking that the dog received a sentence in doggie years…  thankfully, everybody survived… I think.

But back to the 1130 boys… next week’s championship game vs the White Sox is at 9:15; that has usually meant a bad game.  Can we turn it around on the final game of the season?  Can we channel that 1130 energy & focus into the early game?  It’s kind of sad knowing the season is coming to an end.  It has been a long season, but it’s been a lot of fun too.  One more week to go… Go Cubs!

Pretty crazy how noticeable the difference is in performance between the different game times. Too bad the championship game is at 915. Would be interesting to see how the kids performed if it were at 1130. Oh well, get those kids sugared up at 9 and hope for the best. Time to beat the sox for some revenge and the title. When will this matchup happen in real life? Soon? Ever? Only time will tell. Championship game just 2 days away for the little Cubs. Make it a good one! GO CUBS GO!!!
