August 5, 2015: The Return

posted in: Cubs, White Sox | 0

It’s never easy coming back from vacation. It’s always great to get home, but to exit vacation mode sucks.  At least I’m not back at work yet…

Wednesday night saw the end of the Cubs six game winning streak. Dan Haren took to the mound in his first Cubs start. The name reminds me of another Cub pitcher from the past. Another mid season acquisition I believe. Rich Harden, remember him?  He was dominant for a stretch there. Yet, even he couldn’t stop the bleeding that year in the playoffs vs the Dodgers in game 3. He was expected to be very good, and he was…sliding into that 3 spot behind dempster and zambrano. That’s where Haren was slid into the rotation…right behind Lester and Arrieta. I’d still probably take Hammel over him for now.

So with the rainout, the Cubs and bucs split the series. Now, they return back home for a 4 gamer against the Giants…the team that sits a half a game ahead of them for the 2nd wild card spot.  Pretty big August series in Wrigley.  It’s nice to say that, now let’s see how they do.

Meanwhile, back in Chicago, the Sox dropped a series to the Rays…not exactly what a team battling every other team in the AL, including the Rays who just passed them, needed. The Sox cannot get over the hump. After a seven game winning streak got them to one under, they’re back under .500 by 4 games, after losing 5 of the last 7.  Now heading to first place Kansas City for the weekend, the Sox need a series win.  They need it to edge ahead…to not lose any more ground in this wild card race, let alone win some division games.  Winning series is where you begin.

So not back to work until Monday, so that’s good. I get to ease back home with some time to spare; it should help. Checking some emails ahead of time will help Monday be that less worse of a return. I’m not ready yet. Maybe tomorrow. Until then, just happy to be home. Driving in on Thursday afternoon, I heard about another person who had returned home…one of our superstars, who may be in some trouble.  Let’s talk…
