August 31, 2017: New Strategy

If you’ve been reading long enough, you know I partake in fantasy sports.  It used to be football, baseball, and basketball; now it’s just football and baseball.  I actually ran a feature in this blog about fantasy for a while; it did not go well.  Still, I do like to throw in a couple here and there about my other teams.

Tonight is draft night.  Although I have been historically good at baseball, I have been bad at football.  The last couple years has been down right pathetic.  I need a new strategy.  It starts tonight.

We do an auction draft.  In my opinion, it’s the only way to go.  Once you do auction, you don’t go back.  Yeah it takes longer, but it gives you a lot more control over your team.  No need to worry about getting screwed with the 8th pick in the draft, or having that sleeper taken one pick before he got to you.  No, you go out and get who you want… all within the salary cap of course.  And that is the trick…

I have a hard time spending so much money on just one player.  Thus, the last couple years, I sit and watch all the top guys get drafted, while I sit empty handed.  Sure, I make a killing in the mid-tier, and I get a lot of my sleepers, but at the end of the day, without any true tier 1 studs, my teams haven’t performed well.  Another historic route I’ve taken is to not invest in a QB; go figure, a Bears fan not placing a lot of importance on a QB.  Well, just as that changed this past draft day for the Bears, maybe it should change with my fantasy team, the Chicago Blitz.

Another effective tactic to cope with it is to work together and maintain happiness of relationship. ordine cialis on line mouthsofthesouth.com While we’re not excited that there’s no fulfillment ensure, the levitra from india cost is at a level that most fellows would be eager to pay to check whether they could get help regularly. It’s a 12 team league, 1 QB, 3 WRs, 2 RBs, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 K, 1 Defense, and 6 Bench players; I have $200 to work with.  Should I push all in on a guy like Le’Veon Bell or Julio Jones?  Maybe, or at least somebody at that level.  Should I go after Rodgers or Brady?  Well, since I will never draft a Packer, it would have to be the 40 year old Brady… or maybe Brees, Ryan, or Wilson.  I like Luck, but who knows what his status is for the start of the season.

I usually like to get some Bears players on my team, since I’ll be watching all the games.  Lately, it’s been rough, with little fantasy options, but… I did have Jordan Howard last year; will I bring him back into the fold?  If so, I will be paying a pretty penny for him; he’s currently ranked as the 6th best fantasy RB.  I know I will not be taking Glennon; maybe $1 on Trubisky?  I had Cameron Meredith on my radar.  I don’t know if I can get myself to draft Kevin White now; maybe for a buck…

Another problem in recent drafts is that I did little to no research.  I’ve been trying to do a little here and there this year; I have to turn this thing around.  I actually have put in more time this year than the past couple combined; hoping that translates into a good draft.  However, if my mock draft is any indication, I still may be in trouble.  D+?!?!  Who believes that crap anyways…  OK, back to some last minute cramming…

Draft nights have and still are good nights. We used to get together to draft, but that gets harder every year. Now, it is just done online, but it is still fun commenting and busting balls a bit. The auction is definitely the way to go compared to the snake draft. You have total control of who is on your team. You have to make sure you spend your $200 wisely, though. Will you go all in on 3 top guys? Will you sit back and wait for the mid-level players? Strategy, strategy. My level of research has gone down over the years and is now basically non-existent. I think I read 1 article prior to our draft. I have some guys in mind but pretty much wing the draft and see how I feel as guys pop up. Overpriced? Underbid? Good deals? Bumping the price? Stealing a guy somebody seems to really want? All part of the fun. Another draft night…another future title for me?
