August 30, 2015: Weakness

posted in: Cubs | 1

Maybe this whole pickoff thing is a big deal.  How can a big league pitcher, a lefty, a multi millionaire, not be able to make a pickoff throw?  How can somebody not be able to throw to a base effectively?  How can someone be so bad at fielding their position?  How did we not know about this before the big contract was signed?

it is a big deal…a very big deal. Yes, he is a very good pitcher. He has good stuff. He has a great work ethic. He’s a tough competitor. He’s a good teammate. These are all great qualities. These are the things you’d want in all your players. But there is one glaring weakness.

It cost him the first run. Guy gets on first base. Next guy up bunts right back at Lester. He doesn’t even look at second, as if he wouldn’t be able to make that throw anyways. He could have had him easily. Instead, an underhand toss to first. Ok, still got an out. Next guy up strikes out, but the man on second steals third easily.  2 outs. Next guy hits a ball in the hole.  Russell makes a great play but can’t throw him out. Infield single, run scores. Should have never happened.

That was all they got until the 7th when Lester fell apart. Disappointing to say the least. This was a big game, and our big money guy couldn’t come through. Six strong, seven weak.

He failed to get the big win we expected from him.  This is one of the big reasons he is here, right?  He let us down. He’ll have more chances, but so far, he’s been average, and this weakness of his…it’s scary.

The Cubs would get so lucky…to have something fluky like this cost us. Imagine playoffs, close game… Geez, I’d be so worried about anybody getting on base against him. You don’t have to be Billy Hamilton to turn a single into a triple.  Easy solution, just get everybody out, but that’s kind of like happy Gilmore making a hole in one on every par 4 so he doesn’t have to putt the ball.  It’s got to be big time mental at this point too. Joe, work your magic here buddy.

4 in a row now. Still 4.5 up, but farther behind the bucs and cards who both won. Jake on the mound tomorrow night. Let’s hope he can get it done. He doesn’t have that weakness. I’m not sure if he has one. He is our true number one.  Need you again buddy. Go Cubs.

Cubs are on a slide with 4 losses in a row. This west coast trip is not going too well. Lester couldnt stop the bleeding, and the Cubs offense seems to have vanished…no kershaw or bum last night. 4.5 game lead in wild card is nice but 6 more against bucs and birds will not be easy. September looks to be an exciting month for the Cubs as they try to maintain their lead and/or catch the bucs and birds. Before we get there, how about leaving the west coast with a W? That means you are needed again Jake…be dominant, be the ace and show lala what they have to worry about if they see us again. Sunday night baseball, primetime, center stage…time to show lala and the rest of the mlb that the Cubs are ready for September and beyond!
    GO CUBS GO!!!
