August 3, 2017: One of Those Games

posted in: Cubs | 1

That series finale versus the Diamondbacks looked to be one of those games.  One of those games that we’ll remember for the rest of the year…for many years.  It all started when the Cubs were down 6-1.

As I left work, I heard the score in the car on the radio.  Music or Pat and Ron?  I switched during inning breaks, but I stayed tuned in.  To hear them say the wind is blowing out, and that this is definitely a game the Cubs can come back in, made me hopeful.  This Cubs team doesn’t give up; it’s been like that for a few years now.  You always believe they can come back; down 3-1 in the World Series?  Yes, they’ve definitely earned that rep.

As I got home, the Cubs had cut it to 6-2.  I ran into some neighbors and ended up BSing with them for a few.  When I went inside, my wife told me they’re coming back; now the score was 6-5.  It turned out to be Willson again; this time with a three run bomb after his solo earlier.  He has been huge.  He wasn’t done.

After wrapping up a few things, we got back in the car.  The Cubs were back at it.  This time, bases loaded, 2 outs, and you know who at the plate.  Willson wouldn’t hit the grand slam, but he would hit that single up the middle to give the Cubs the 7-6 lead.  The Cubs would give it right back.  I like Edwards, but he’s been a bit of a roller coaster ride, and this time, it went off the tracks.  8-7 Dbacks.

The Cubs would end up tying it at 8 before the game was delayed for the third time in the top of the ninth.  Yes, over 2 hours of rain delays now.  Still, I can’t get mad at a rain delay any more…you know what I mean?

Inferior eating and working habits can make the physique causes sildenafil cost erectile dysfunction. The Diamondbacks would score two when play resumed, and that was enough. 10-8 final.

What happens when one of those games falls flat?  All the excitement of the comeback…the 6 RBI day by Willson…the anticipation of completing the comeback and winning the series.  I thought they would do it in the bottom of the ninth.  I thought they’d find a way.  They didn’t.  What does that mean?

Does that mean this isn’t a magical year?  A loss in a game like this seems to take the air out of everybody.  Still a great run after the all star break.  Still in first place.  Maybe this game means nothing.  It’s just another loss.  Maybe it would have meant so much more had we completed the comeback.  Maybe I should just move on.

The Nationals will visit Wrigley for a potential NLDS preview.  Bigger series than normal?  How about we just get to the playoffs and go from there.  The most important thing now is to stay in first place and extend our lead.  One win, one loss, one series will not make or break us.  Let’s keep grinding.  Go Cubs!

Yes, the Cubs never seem to be out of a game. They can and have come from behind…bigger holes than they were in vs the dbacks. Willson 3run bomb, Willson 2 run single to give the Cubs the lead…how damn good has he been! Unfortunately, Carl Edwards has been struggling and gave up the lead, but the Cubs tied it again. Plenty of rain delays…no more complaining about those! It was an exciting game, but the Cubs ended up losing. A deflating loss? Maybe but not really. No time to feel sorry for yourself. The nats are coming to town in a potential playoff matchup. Time to see where we stand at this point in the year. GO CUBS GO!!!
