So you’re not ready for your fantasy football draft? This is your last chance. Do that final research, review the updated depth charts, check the latest injury report; draft day is here!
The anticipation is over. No more mock drafts. No more reviewing players. It’s time for the draft to begin. What happens when that first guy puts Peyton Manning up for auction? Are you all in or all out? Are you stopping at $60, or are you bidding until you get him? Then come the big 4 RBs (yeah, I’m leaving Lacy out). Are you grabbing one of them? Is $65 the magic number for one of these horses. Are you going WR heavy, and looking for average backs that catch a lot of passes in your PPR league? OK, so you didn’t get one of the first 5 guys. You still have all your money, good. You better grab a big time WR. Maybe you do have one of these guys; are you going after one of the top WR too? Are you willing to spend $120 players to have 2 of the best 12 players in the NFL on your team? How about that Jimmy Graham? He’s like a #1 WR; maybe you take care of your TE position with the BEST TE in the game. Maybe you wait for the TE and get one of the other 20 decent ones.
This is the first round thought process. Hopefully, you’re able to answer those questions. Have a plan, but be able to change it on the fly. Let’s say Peterson is sitting at $51 and the clock is ticking down; get in on that. Let’s say Forte is the guy you really wanted to have, but his price is now sitting at $66; you still REALLY want him? You don’t want to sit with NO top 12 players on your team, or do you? Do you have the skill to craft a winning team with NO top 12 players? Do you have the skill to craft a winning team with only $80 left to spend on 14 players? Which way do you feel better? Maybe you had a couple beers by this time, and you decide to get 3 of the top 12 players. By the time you realize you’re broke, it’ll be too late. Sit there and keep drinking; there’ll be plenty of $1 players in about 2 hours.
Let’s talk some crap too. Hopefully you can attend your draft in person; it’s the best part of the fantasy season. Get there. Make it happen. Egg on some of your competitors, bid up some of “their” guys, take some chances… it’s the beginning of fantasy football season, and it doesn’t get better than this.

What about your sleepers? You got a list? You realize that some of your deep sleepers may not even get drafted? How high you going to bid on “your” sleeper pick? You better believe somebody else has him on the radar too. I know there are guys in my league that think just like me; they like the same guys I do. There are guys that have known me 20+ years in my league; how do you outsmart them? Everybody has a plan, or should have a plan; what happens when those plans overlap? How do you adjust, and who adjusts the best? The answer to this question may be the answer to who wins your league.
Or maybe it’s just pure luck… You put all this time and effort in, then comes along a guy who barely looked at it, and his team turns out awesome. It’s a crapshoot, that’s for sure. But, year in year out, the same guys are usually in the playoffs; that must say something about them. I plan on being in the playoffs again. I haven’t won this league yet; I’ve come close, but that doesn’t cut it, it just gets you some money back. Not this year… this is MY year. The Chicago Blitz will rise!
So there’s my guarantee: a Fantasy Football title. I’m going to make it happen. I’ve dropped some knowledge, given some tips, dropped some names; now it’s time for me to deliver the goods. I’m coming out with a crazy plan that will shock the world!!! Probably not; I’m just going to grind away, and hope for some breaks. Some say you make your own breaks; I like that theory. The talking is over, the blogging is over. Auction time is now!
