August 27, 2024: What About College?

Although it’s a bit too early to talk about where my 7th grade son will go to college, it’s the perfect time to talk some College Football. There were a number of years where I lost interest… but I’m baaaack. I’m sure wagering on this sport has nothing to do with it…

This is a landmark year for College Football, or so they say; I would agree. Going to the 12 team playoff system is huge; one step closer to the March Madness bracket that College Basketball uses. How big will the football bracket grow? Not sure, but I feel it’s a good start. This will be tweaked over the next couple years for sure, but I like the path they’re going; more teams have a chance! That’s not to say the same schools won’t be involved at the end of the day, but at least the “other guys” finally have their shot. Gone are the days where a team goes undefeated and doesn’t get a crack at the national title; this is a good thing. Does it water down the regular season a bit? Maybe. Some teams… those same old big guys… can now lose more than 1 game, maybe even 3 games, and STILL get into the playoffs; it will be interesting to see it all play out. I’m here for it, no doubt.

Week 0 is already in the books, after a handful of games last weekend. I was on GTech +10.5; wish I would have had ML. I bet in-game on Montana State to win the game; I thought that was a loser. When I checked later that evening, I saw I won, when they scored 21 unanswered points in the 4th quarter; sometimes it’s good to be lucky. I was about to do the same thing with SMU when I saw they were down early, but thought I’d just take my lucky break and be happy. I was about to take Hawaii -40, well, because it’s Hawaii, and it’s the late night game on Saturday, but… I didn’t do that either. I would have broke even with both of these. So a 2-0 start to the College Football season; undefeated baby!

Next up is Week 1, and it is a full slate, starting on Thursday. I’ve already got some bonuses for Week 1, as well as, Minnesota and North Carolina on Thursday; all of a sudden, I have another game to take a closer look at. This is such a great time of year. With baseball wrapping up, heading into the postseason… NFL and College Football back… and basketball and hockey on the doorstep. What would we do without sports? I don’t know… I really don’t. Maybe I’d read more books; maybe I’d spend more time outdoors. Maybe I’d be able to more quickly push through my list of to do’s around the house. That all sounds super, but sports sounds just a bit better. This is my hobby, and we’re about to step into the best time of the year for it. Enjoy everybody!
