August 27, 2017: Already Know

posted in: Bears | 1

The Bears 3rd preseason game was this Sunday.  You know, the one I argued for Mitchell to start… giving the Bears as close to a true picture of what he could do with and against 1st stringers.  Well, they didn’t listen, and Mike started.  Again, I recorded the game, but didn’t get to watch yet.  I may not even watch, because I already know.

I already know how I’m going to feel; I’ve felt this way after week 1.  It’s Mitch Time.  It’s kind of like I didn’t need to see the Miami Dolphins highlights to know Jay Cutler fumbled a couple times.  I don’t need to see stopgap Glennon perform a little better to know that he’s not as good as Trubisky.  I don’t need to see a package of Trubisky highlights from the same game to tell me who is better.  We already know.  Why don’t the Bears?

Are they protecting him?  This could be about the only thing I can be semi-OK with.  I’m NOT OK with it, but if you want to bring him along slowly, for the sake of his development, then… I mean, it was a good strategy.  But just because it WAS a good strategy, not really knowing how good, how ready he would be, doesn’t mean it’s still a good strategy.  We already knew the other side of the equation.

We knew what Glennon was brought here to be; we certainly can’t still feel like we have to keep that “promise” to him.  He was meant to bridge the gap between today and when we have a capable QB.  I don’t think anyone expected us to have a capable QB already, but it kind of is what it is.  Did the Cubs say, well, let’s not get Joe Maddon because we need to stick to our 2-3 year plan with Renteria?  We see how that turned out, only difference is there isn’t another Chicago football team Glennon can go play QB for.

It’s about what is most important to the Bears winning games and… that’s it.  That SHOULD be more important than anything else.  If the Bears stick to their plan of Glennon number one, I have to question that.  They are choosing to start a QB that isn’t as good as another one on our roster… period.  I don’t think there is enough spin to make me think that is OK.  There is no legitimate reason, like when the Cubs kept Bryant in the minors for a few more weeks to get another year of control, for keeping Mitch on the bench…. and even what the Cubs & the other major league teams do with situations similar to Bryant could be questioned.  Was it smart?  Yes.  Was it done with wins and losses in mind?  No, unless you spin it where we sacrificed 3 weeks of wins for a whole season of wins…. and considering how it all turned out anyways, who am I to argue that?

And maybe this whole Trubisky thing will turn out OK too.  I’m not going to get TOO worked up about it… not this second.  But you can expect more of the same type of blogs from me, or at least mentions of this, going forward until he is starting.  Although I am starting to get more pissed the more I talk about this…  Pace, Fox… what’s it going to be?

What do we know? Do we know better than the Bears? Sometimes, we like to think so. Glennon played better this week. MTru played like he has this preseason…pretty damn good. Again, MTru is playing against 2nd or 3rd stringers. How will he fare against 1st stringers? I guess we will not find out this preseason. 1 game left. The call for MTru to start is already happening. While I agree to a certain extent, why would the Bears not find out what he can do against 1st string defenders? Are they that set on Glennon starting that they are afraid MTru might prove he should start? Doesn’t make much sense to me, but neither did trading up to draft MTru. So I will give Fox and Pace a bit of slack. It seems obvious Glennon is going to be the starter…for now. How long will it last? Is MTru ready to go against top notch Ds? All answers that will come. For the time being, I like what I see with this Bears team. I have higher hopes than I did for this season. Yes, the season starts with some tough games, but if the Bears can split, it is only downhill on the schedule from there. Can the Bears be a .500 team this year? Better? Playoffs? Let’s pump the brakes on all of that, including the qb situation…for now…and be excited about DA Bears returning to respectability at the very least. BEAR DOWN!!!
