Thankfully I haven’t been talking about the Cubs Sox series; the first two games were an absolute shit show. There is something to be said for running into a hot team, because the Sox… they’re on fire. Bashing balls left and right out of Wrigley, just like they were doing against the lowly Tigers before that, just like they did against the Cardinals before that. Yes, the White Sox were on a pretty good tear coming into Sunday’s afternoon series finale at Wrigley. They were looking for the sweep.
Abreu… Jesus Christ this guy. Every time he came up to bat it felt like he went deep. If anybody embodied the temperature of the Sox offense, it was Jose. That little beard pony tail isn’t that cute in my opinion, but hey, whatever works my man… braid up that back hair, little twists on your calves… roll with it. If he wasn’t already on the list, you can officially add him to the list of Cubs killers after this series, and he did it again on Sunday. 1-0 Sox early.
I was feeling ill about how this series had developed. The Sox were kicking our ass. Out of all teams… all those Sox fans I know, all those Sox fans that hate the Cubs… now I gotta hear about this. I had to make myself feel better. I broke out the 2016 World Series Champions glass and had a tall glass of cold milk. Yeah, that’s better. Yet, I couldn’t just sit and watch it; I needed to multi task… take my full attention off another deficit and potential sweep. I was upstairs cleaning my dresser when my son yelled up that Baez got a double; minutes later, he said Schwarbino went deep. WTF… the Cubs have a lead. Surely this one run lead would not hold up against this young juggernaut…

Ever since the second half of last year, the guy has earned his paycheck. He came up big today, keeping the Sox right there, at that loneliest number. Thankfully I wasn’t watching when Kimbrel came in; still not ready for that. He got the first two, then walked the next two; Jeffress time. He got out of the inning. Was hoping to add insurance, but nope. First two guys in the ninth, no problem. Then of course he loads the bases…. I started feeling sick again. Moncada grounded out; whew is what I sent out in my text messages.
This was a good, much needed victory. Getting swept by anybody is bad, especially in this shortened season; if the Sox had pulled it off… ugh. All is well; Cubs still in first place by 3 games. No off day here; heading to Detroit next. If our offense doesn’t wake up, I don’t care who we’re playing. That record start is long gone boys; hopefully this W gets us going again. As for the Sox and this series, one is enough, and yes, I do have some thoughts…
