August 20, 2017: Round Two

posted in: Bears | 1

It was the return to Arizona for round two of the preseason for our Bears.  I recorded this one too; still haven’t watched all of it yet.  I just can’t help but think about that one game in Arizona; how can you not?

Yeah, the best Bears game I ever attended in person.  It was topped off by the famous Dennis Green rant that we watched on the scoreboard as it was happening. “They are who we thought they were” will forever bring a smile to my face.  I feel like we can use a variation of this line to describe what’s going on with the the Bears so far this season.

More specifically, what the deal is with Mike Glennon.  He is who we thought he was.  I’ve already been through this, but I may have to repeat it every round until something changes.  He was supposed to be a placeholder.  He’s a guy we overpaid to fill a temporary void.  He’s average at best.  He’s more likely a competent backup QB in this league; he definitely won’t be out of a job.  But, he should not have THIS job.

Another game, another pick; almost another one too.  He hasn’t impressed thus far.  Would Trubisky have done so against a team’s first stringers?  I’d love to find out.  We already know that about Glennon, or at least what we know thus far.  Poor guy hasn’t even gotten a fair chance, but…that’s not our problem.  We deserve to have the best QB out there, period.

Is it Trubisky?  How will we know?  Lots off fans, including myself, think it’s him already, but how do you really know?  Are the Bears going to make this determination in practice?  Are you able to make this ranking from the preseason games?  Maybe the better QB is Glennon; that’s how it was supposed to be this year at least.

Even if they’re close…maybe you can argue for Glennon then.  Are the Bears really ready to do something this year?  Maybe not, but may they aren’t as bad as they’re made out to be.  The defense has looked pretty good thus far; the running game has been solid, and that’s without the 100% healthy OL.  Maybe the Bears can make some noise this year?  Maybe I’m blind by my love of Da Bears.

Maybe I should put down the tall glass of kool aid that I’m drinking.  Maybe regardless of who is playing QB, the results will be similar.  Or maybe Mitchell is ready now.

He was the two overall pick.  We know the Bears traded up to get him.  We are hoping he IS the future.  Do we have to be as patient as we were with this latest Cubs plan that ended with glory?  Do we have to suffer some more like Sox fans currently?  It took a while for the Hawks to hit, but when they did…3 cups!  I know the Bears are at the very least in better shape than the Bulls.

I’m ready for the Bears to be good now.  I’m ready to turn over the keys to Mitchell and let him drive for a decade or more.  I think he’s better than Glennon already.  I’m not the coach.  I just hope whoever is making that determination is doing so fairly, not based on some “promise” that was made to Glennon.  I say let Trubisky start the 3rd preseason game to help make that determination.  If he kills it, then we know.  If he doesn’t, then at the very least, we should see a much better Glennon against the 2nd/3rd stringers.  I like that idea; what about you?

Round 2, I’m down to, do, what it takes to make you…yes, I have changed course a bit. Maybe MTru should start if he is ready and better than Glennon. Why waste another year just because the Bears committed to Glennon? In the big picture, he is nobody. As you said, a good backup or maybe a serviceable spot starter. I can guarandamntee you that he is not the future. He was to fill a role this year and get his walking papers. So if that is the case, why wait? If MTru can come close to what Glennon is going to give us, why not get him the best kind of experience? As I have been saying, MTru should be starting a preseason game against a first team D. Let’s see what he can do. He looks pretty damn good so far. Glennon is what he is…average. The kool aid you are drinking has been passed along to me now. Maybe our love for DA Bears is blinding us, but you never know in the nfl. Guys get hurt, have bad years, things happen. The Bears D is going to be better. The running game should be good. The qb position can make or break a team…we know that for a fact! So why not let the guy everyone wants to be the franchise qb lead the team in his first year? On the job experience against the nfl’s best. Could it backfire and hurt his progress? Maybe. Could it be valuable and boost his progress? Yes. The Bears already took the risk trading up to get him. They seem all in. So why get scared now? See what you really have. Shove all in and start MTru in a preseason game. If he bombs, we know he is not ready, which is why Glennon is here. If he doesn’t, we know he is ready and should start over Glennon. Either way, we get a better picture of what this year could look like…good or bad. Start MTru…that’s damn true! BEAR DOWN!!!
