I have the same feelings every year. I see excitement brewing around the start of Bears season, yet, cannot find it in myself to get too excited for the preseason. I know… it means that meaningful football is that much closer. But…. preseason? This year we get extra lucky… an extra meaningless game on the preseason docket. It all began with the HOF game in Canton.
I will get back to the HOFers for this year… one in particular whose jersey I have, and whose jersey was the first one I bought my son. Yes, loved #54… always will. Glad he got in first shot; he definitely deserved it. But back to the meaningless part of the activity in Canton this week.
Yes, the Bears vs the Ravens game kicked off the preseason slate. Last year, I actually did tune in to the first preseason game; I wanted to see Trubisky play. I remember watching him, and that glorious first impression. It brought me hope for the years to come. It made me think maybe Pace got this one right. Maybe we finally have a QB. Coming off the useless Cutler era, I guess anybody would have done. But Mitch… yeah, he could be something.
He wasn’t playing in this game, nor were many of the first stringers. Although, are the first stringers really decided yet? Most of them are, but have to think a few are still up for grabs. I guess that provides meaning to these games.

I was switching back and forth with the Cubs, who actually are playing meaningful games right now. That’s another reason why it’s been hard to get into football so early. We’re in the golden era of Cubs baseball, and honestly, the Bears will not get my full attention until they’re done playing baseball for the year.
Yes, even this year… the year where I am more excited about Bears football than I have been in a long time. I can’t wait to see what they do… in the regular season. Yeah, I’ve been following along of course. Don’t see Roquan out there yet. Supposedly it’s NOT about the new helmet rule, but off the field stuff now? Who knows, but that new helmet rule is going to piss a lot of people off all year long. It showed up early in this first preseason game.
It’s just another tool for Papa Vegas. It gives the refs another judgment call to make while watching full speed action. Good luck to them. But they’ll have a game plan before the game. They’ll have players they’ll be watching. There will be some players who will get fined and suspended because of this; some of them rightfully so, others not. Waiting for that first penalty call in a critical situation. Will it screw your team or help them? They’ll be some of each. Can’t wait for those…
Yes, the NFL is officially back. Our Bears are back. I love them of course, but… wake me when it’s the regular season. Bear Down!

The Hall of Fame game! I wait for it every year…hahaha. Yeah ok. But the Bears did play in this one, but I did not watch. Nothing new here as I rarely watch any preseason games. It has nothing to do with my excitement for the upcoming season. I am confident that the Bears are going to turn the corner. Preseason games just mean nothing. I am not going to make any decisions on the guys playing. I want to see real game action…week 1 vs the fudgepack. Cant stand the new helmet rule, either. The nfl is getting soft, and that is a fact! Yes, yes, protect the players…blah blah blah. They know what sport they are playing. They are aware of the risks. If they CHOOSE to play anyway, then so be it. Not going to be good when an official makes a judgment call on a hit to decide a game. Yes, the nfl is back…fast forward to the week 1 Bears mauling of the fudge! BEAR DOWN!!!
