I like that name better. Who didn’t like the old Comiskey better than the new park, whether it be US Cellular or Guaranteed Rate? I attended many games at the old Comiskey back in the day. It’s not quite Wrigley, but many good times were had in that old stadium.
So yeah, Comiskey Park III it is. We were in the house on Tuesday night vs the Blue Jays, with the other couple thousand people. It was pretty empty, but I guess that’s to be expected. Even Wrigley wasn’t packed during those rebuilding years. It was fuller than this, but still. And I thought… right now, about 9 miles north, Wrigley is packed as the Cubs took on the Dbacks. We still enjoyed ourselves.
It had rained hard for about 30 minutes late that afternoon, so when we arrived at the park, to our seats in the 2nd row of the left field bleachers, it was under water. We had to wipe down the bench, as our feet rested in a puddle. Just getting to the park was an adventure… We always hit up Ricobene’s before a Sox game; best sandwich in Chicago in my book. They were a little light on the sauce this time; I’ll make sure to mention that the next time. Anyways, a free shuttle from there to the game was the plan; shuttle never showed up. Or, maybe it did, but it was already 620 and we needed to get there. About a mile walk… not bad, except I had an extra 40 pounds on my shoulders…haha. I never mind carrying my son; I’ll do it as long as I physically can. Once at the park, and after my wife wiped down the seats, it was almost game time.
We watched the first 3 innings before departing for Fundamentals, the best part of the park. My son fielded some grounders, threw some balls, hit some balls stationery and in the cage, and raced against Scott Podsednik. He had a blast, except when he lost the race; he doesn’t like to lose.. he doesn’t like when he can’t do something either. I wonder who that sounds like…
After the 3 innings of fun, and no I’m not talking about the 3 innings that we watched, we looked for some dessert. Churros it is!!! We needed something before our long walk back to the car in the Ricobene’s parking lot. They were awesome; they better be… they were $4.75 each!!!

The Sox lost, but that’s to be expected at this point. They did win the 2 games leading up to this one both in walk off fashion. Yes, tank mode is in full effect, but it’s still nice to win some games here and there. Starting next year, winning will be the actual goal. Getting up to 70 wins next year before shooting for 500 the following year, seems like good progression for these rebuilt Sox.
On the drive home, we listened to the rest of the Cubs game on the radio, as they pummeled the Dbacks on the other side of the city. Would I have rather attended that game? Sure, but this was a lot of fun too. I don’t discriminate going to a Sox game. Heck, even if my son wanted a Sox shirt, I’d be OK with it… I think. Anyways, we’ll be back in CP3 next week for some more in person viewing. Until then, we head to that other side of town…

CP3…aint nothing like the original but it’s fine. Loved the original Comiskey with the outfield upper decks. Went to way more sox games than Cubs games back in the day. Just going to a live baseball game is great, no matter the stadium or who is playing. Looking forward to the sox vs Astros next week in the bleachers. Hope to see some fireworks and a white sox winner.
You cannot beat a Ricobene’s breaded steak sandwich…best in the world according to some magazine…pretty damn impressive. Cant wait to sink my teeth into one next week…can already taste it!
