August 19, 2015: Tiger Style

posted in: Cubs | 1

With the Tigers at Wrigley for a two game set, we celebrate an anniversary. The last time the Cubs made the World Series was 70 years ago.

At least there are still some people alive who remember that. Not sure if there are any from 1908. It was this very team from Detroit that the Cubs faced off against.  This of course is where the curse of the Billy Goat originated before game 4 of the series. You all know the story, and for the record, I’m not buying it. What I didn’t know is that the series format was 3-4:  3 games in Detroit and 4 in Wrigley.  It went to seven games, with the Cubs falling. This was the last world series game they would play in.

Back to this year, where the Cubs are hoping to get a chance to get back in that final series. As for this series, it hasn’t been pretty. Hammel got tagged on Tuesday. He had one of those AL flashback moments. Cubs lost 10-8.

I didn’t see any of this one, but know the Cubs did make a comeback that fell short, including a Schwarber 3 run blast. Like to see the never die attitude, hate to see an ugly loss.

Even affected men viagra sans prescription observe its effects either four hours or more. Wednesday brought more of the same. This time it was Lester that got shellacked. 7 runs in 3 innings. A grand slam didn’t help. Neither did giving up a home run to the Detroit pitcher who was making his first ever plate appearance…in the majors and minors!!!  It wasn’t a cheapie either;  dead center. Guy later left with an oblique injury; one big swing did it.

It was a first half Lester performance. He was 4-0 in 5 starts since the break with a 40/6 k to bb ratio. Not too shabby, but this type of outing needs to stay in the rear view.

The Cubs fought back in this one too trailing 7 zip. Fowler, Bryant, and Schwarber all went deep. If the bullpen had held them down, the Cubs would have prevailed. Instead, another loss and 2 game sweep at the hands of the Tigers.

15-8 was the final in this one. Pitching failed us in this quick set. Nice to see the offense try to battle back, but they came up short. It’s a series we need to forget, unlike the 1945 series. It was the old Tiger style that ousted us here, just like back then.  Time to bounce back quick. 5 more home games before heading to the west coast.

A 2game set to forget for sure…nothing to worry about, but definitely time to move on. Pitching has been pretty damn good all year, but not in this series as the Cubs got outslugged. Looking forward to finishing the homestand on a high note and starting a new winning streak, starting today. GO CUBS GO!!!
