August 18, 2024: End of Summer

Our days are numbered… When we told our son last week that he was going back to school in 10 days, a look of panic spread over his face. WHAT?!?! He was in disbelief… no way his video game playing time will be limited again; this can’t be happening! Haha… well, yes, the end of summer is near…

It was a pretty good summer all things considered. We had trips to the Dominican, LA, and Vegas; definitely can’t complain about that. Well, maybe we can complain, about the effects on our bank accounts… haha. But yeah, we did it up; it was all worth it. With my son getting traits from both my wife and I, some good, some bad, there is one that he got from both of us… the love of travel. After all, he was only a little more than a year old when he made his first trip on an airplane; it wasn’t a fun one either. We missed our flight to LA, because of a cancelled flight before us, and the fact that the flight left early; when the hell does that happen?!?! Anyways, we ended up in the airport for half a day before getting out west… to San Francisco… where we had to wait another few hours before finally getting to LA in the early evening; yes, he was thrown right into the fire. He was a trooper though; wasn’t bad in the airport OR on the airplane, as I’m sure some people worried about. If he was OK on THAT trip, the rest is gravy…

The summer wasn’t as good for the Chicago baseball teams. The Sox… do I even want to talk about the Sox? Let’s just label this one as the forgotten season, and move on; it CAN’T get worse. The Cubs… do I want to talk about them??? One word to describe the season thus far: expected. When you run back the same team not sure how you can expect different results. Another year together will be better? Well, it wasn’t… outside of a miraculous run in these next 5 weeks. Still, did get to see them play twice this summer, which is down from the normal amount of games I get to. We did see 2 Ws though… and got to see Imanaga, so… that’s good. Will we get to another Cubs game? A Sox game? I’m sure those tickets are cheap…

Yes, the end of summer not only brings everyone back to school, but it also signifies the end of the baseball season, although we still will have 1 month for all teams, and 2 months left for some teams. It’s a sad time? Sure, I love the 4 seasons no doubt, and the end of summer does mean something else… the return of football!!! Can’t be mad at that, but… there is no time like summer time. As we start to say goodbye to one season, another begins… and on and on we go…
