August 18, 2022: Shifting Gears

As baseball enters the homestretch, we start turning our attention to football. Doesn’t mean I’ll stop watching the Cubs; watched some of the game in Baltimore on Thursday afternoon… nice win for the Cubbies. Doesn’t mean I’ll watch the NFL preseason; I did see the Bears won, and I’m happy about that, but… can’t get into the preseason. We still watch Quick Pitch in the morning, although that may be coming to an end next week when my son goes back to school. But at night… instead of baseball, if there is a football show on, more specifically about fantasy football, we’re tuning in. The shifting of gears has begun…

I told my son, who has completed about 5 mock drafts already on my phone, let’s not forget about our fantasy baseball teams! I will be in the playoffs in my main league, again, of course… haha, and in the family league, our team will be in as well, currently leading the entire league in points. There are still roster moves to be made there; hot guys to grab off the wire. We need to see that to completion, but… with the drafts right around the corner, football does need to make its way into the daily conversation. Are there any Bears that need to be in that fantasy football conversation? Well… I certainly think Montgomery will be, as well as Mooney in the later rounds. Fields and Herbert maybe backup QB and RB options? I think Kmet is a decent choice as a 2nd TE as well. Cairo should be a fine choice at kicker. And the defense, well… matchup based for sure, which is how I roll with my defenses lately anyways.

My son has discovered the nice thing about having the last pick in the first round; get that WR-RB combo because you have 2 picks in the top whatever before anybody else. I like that too. Unless you’re #1, and take the obvious choice IMO with Jonathan Taylor, I’d rather be last. If you’re 2 or 3 or whatever, and you’re in love with a WR, you need to grab them at that point, and settle for whatever RBs come back your way at the end of the next round, which will NOT include the premium ones. If you grab another top tier RB after JT is off the board, you will certainly miss out on your top WR… but WRs… there are a good amount of top tier ones I think. Chase, Adams, Samuel, Kupp, Diggs… all fine choices in the first 2 rounds I think. Yes, Davante Adams is now available for me to draft since he no longer wears the ugliest uniform in professional sports… haha.

Not sure if I’ll do a mock… with 3 drafts in 7 days starting next Thursday, I’ll have plenty to do. Oh yeah, I was supposed to print out some stuff today before I left work. Let me do that before I get out of here. This is to show my son that YOU have to have your own rankings and not just follow Yahoo blindly. Always teaching… haha.
