August 17, 2016: Best Move Not Made

posted in: Cubs | 1

I always thought Jorge Soler would be the piece to be moved to get somebody at this year’s trade deadline.  It didn’t happen.  How good has he been since he’s been back?  It might just be the best move not made.

He hit a 3 run homer in the Cubs victory over the Brewers on Wednesday night.  He’s hit a handful of them since coming off the injured list.  At this point, he’s in position to be a big time contributor coming down the stretch and heading into the postseason.  Let’s not forget his last postseason.  I think he reached base in 9 straight at bats.  Schwarber and him were our best hitters last October.  How much will he factor in this postseason?

I know Joe said he will be sticking with Heyward, but when push comes to shove, and we need some more offense, Soler has to be in the lineup ahead of him.  I’m thinking Bryant, Fowler, Soler from left to right (or maybe even the other way), Baez, Russell, Zobrist, Rizzo, and Contreras catching.  THAT is the best offensive lineup.  But we know it’s not all about that… and putting in Montero or Ross behind the plate moves Willson to LF, Bryant to 3B, and Baez back to the bench.  It also has Heyward over Soler in RF.  I say it’s good to have options.

What if Schwarber did not get hurt?  How crowded would this lineup be?  And oh yeah, Almora looked pretty good in his cup of coffee in the bigs.  Who am I forgetting?  Szczur hasn’t been a slouch, and Tommy “I finally reported back to work” LaStella was very good from the left hand side.  The Cubs are stacked right now.  So please don’t sweat the trading of those prospects for Aroldis.

As mentioned earlier, the ORAC-score is a measure of the antioxidant capacity cheapest viagra no prescription of a particular food or product. It went so popular in 1998 that within few years, a whole new male sexual health industry has canadian cialis mastercard taken its shape. Since sexual dysfunction is really a painful issue for women and children and hence it should be kept away from children and pets as it can be poisonous for their health and must be stored at a appalachianmagazine.com ordine cialis on line temperature of 25 degrees C. Another move I wanted to make was to add another starter.  Part 2 of the best moves not made, at least thus far.  Statistically the best rotation in baseball from 1-5, the Cubs starting pitching has been tremendous; Lester enjoyed the 5 run cushion on Wednesday night, as he moved his win loss record to 13-4; are we getting our money’s worth now?

Is there still a move to be made?  Who will be the September call ups?  Is there a guy we have not seen yet that will make an impact come October?

I don’t think so.  I’m looking forward to expanding the rosters, which gets the Cubs that much deeper.  I think we’ve already seen everybody we’re going to see this year; who will be the surprise contributor?

I’m ready to be done playing the Brewers that’s for sure.  Honestly, I’m done with the regular season.  The Cubs have the biggest division lead in the majors, and have a healthy lead for best record in the league.  I think we’re pretty close to chalking up the title best regular season team, which means absolutely nothing come October.  I’m ready to get there, and prove it out.  I’m loving the ride, but I’m ready for the next step.  Patience is a virtue.

Not making moves is sometimes the best thing that can be done. At the same time, I believe that if the Cubs do not win it all this year, some of these young guys will be gone. There is not enough room or positions to put all of them. Yes, it is great to have depth, but these guys are every day players, somewhere. So if the Cubs need to deal one or more at some point after this year, it will make sense. Hopefully, the Cubs can win it all this year with all of the moves not made! GO CUBS GO!!!
