August 16, 2023: Highlight of the Year

posted in: Cubs, White Sox | 2

When Luis Robert hit that home run on Tuesday night at Wrigley, turned his back, and did his little trot down the first base line, returning to home plate, putting his finger to his mouth, while some Cubs fans flipped him the finger, I was getting pissed. My first thought was bean this MFer next time he’s up. Should I put my finger to the standings to show where the Sox are currently? Screw him. Then… I took a breath, and thought… hey, this is probably the highlight of the year for the White Sox; let them enjoy it… what else have they had to celebrate this year? Not only is this potentially their first great moment of the season, it probably will be their last… unless of course they beat the Cubs again on Wednesday night at Wrigley to even the season series at two a piece.

I got to thinking… what ever happened to Steve Stone being psychic, and predicting a White Sox World Series title during this championship window? Sure, he called Mark Prior’s career coming to an end, and maybe some other stuff, but man… if I called the Psychic Network and got this information, I’d be looking for my money back. I wonder if he predicted the Sox trading one of their best players Jake Burger to the Marlins, coming up with big hits for them aiding in their chase for the NL Wild Card. Or… maybe like the Bears letting Robbie Gould go to kick the game winner ending the Packers season, the Sox traded Jake Burger to help the Marlins make the Wild Card over the Cubs? Yeah, that’s it…

If there was ever a dumpster fire of a season, the poor Sox qualify for that in 2023. Holy crap… 48-72?!?! There are only 2 teams worse than the Sox in the AL, and only 1 team in the NL that is worse; talk about that “window” closing… it has been shattered. But hey, if the Sox go on a run, they could still win the divi…. OK, let me stop. Where the Sox go from here is probably the biggest question in their fans’ minds.

Funny enough, I caught a blurb today that said they should follow the Cubs “rebuild/reload” blueprint; I chuckled. Weren’t the Sox supposed to be following the 2016 Cubs blueprint? Haha… Yeah, well… how about you just get your own plan, one that involves actually paying for a halfway decent manager. But sure, sending some of these underperforming bums on their way is probably a good idea; problem is, what is their value nowadays? Oh well, I’m sure if the Sox beat the Cubs again, their value will spike…

From this Cubs fan’s point of view, I’m just happily surprised the Cubs are actually in the postseason conversation. We’re a long way from making that a reality, but… I thought we’d be right there, neck and neck with the Sox for baseball mediocrity in the city of Chicago which we’re very familiar with. I’m one of the most surprised the way the season has gone for both of these clubs. But since we’re here… and since we’re all “Chicago”… the Sox should lay down in their support of the Cubs. I think some Sox fans would rather die than do that though…

So I guess we’ll have to do it ourselves; don’t do me no favors. I’d like to see the Cubs come out on Wednesday night at Wrigley and spank the ever living crap out of this 2 cent team, and send them on their way to the bottom of the MLB standings. If/when we do, I’d still expect a Thank You from Sox fans for the Cubs providing you your highlight of the year. You’re welcome! Go Cubs!!!
