There was one other thing about our trip to Vegas that I needed to do: I was signing us up for the Circa Survivor contest. We are official!
I guess the path here started more than a year ago, when I began listening to Follow the Money; it’s a podcast BTW. They talk gambling for 3 hours every morning. Since I had started back down the devil’s path about a year and a half ago, I was looking for a show like this, and voila… two guys who’ve been doing this for a minute, hosting a daily show from the Circa casino in downtown Las Vegas. I was listening religiously for a while; I would check in here and there. I am able to watch the show on Marquee in Chicago, so that’s cool, except a lot of times, they’ll cut into the 3 hour show. I’ve just started tuning in again, after all, football is back! Anyways, during last year’s football season, one of the hosts had a deep run in this Circa Survivor contest; I was interested. It runs kind of like any other survivor/elimination pool… you need to pick one winner every week, for the 18 regular season weeks, and the 2 special weeks as indicated by this contest, which would be the Thanksgiving and Christmas games. You can’t pick the same team twice. The entry fee is $1,000. The guaranteed prize money this year… $10 million. Like I said, I was interested. Thing is, I wasn’t going to foot the bill myself; I don’t have it like that, so… we split it 5 ways. The plan was set.
My trip scheduled to Vegas in August would be the time to sign us up, since that had to be done in person. I felt like Bradley Cooper in Hangover, collecting each guy’s portion of the entry fee, before I got on a plane to Vegas… Thankfully only one of the guys gave me cash, haha. So I had all the funds. I made the appointment, and on Tuesday afternoon, we jumped in a cab taking us to downtown Vegas. It took about 15-20 minutes. Since none of us lives in Vegas, we had to get a proxy to make our picks, since all of this has to be done in person; it was a little extra dough, but not too bad. Signed up for the contest, paid for the proxy, got all the info… bam!
Now the hard part begins. Picking one, single winner every week sounds easy; those who know, understand it is not. The attention will now to turn to Week 1. We had our first meeting before I left; we’ll be meeting again soon. We can’t get knocked out right out of the gate; that would suck. One other thing we needed before signing up, was our team name; didn’t really get a whole lot of great ideas, but there was one… Game Gliders. Game Gliders? Yeah, sounds decent. Hopefully, we’ll make that name famous… or at the very least, have fun trying. Time to pick a winner…
