August 15, 2023: Faith in Humanity

Driving to work on Tuesday morning, I made a decision; let’s get on the inbound Kennedy. This expressway is under construction and traffic is absolutely ridiculous, but I figured I’d try it anyways. Well, it was a slow moving parking lot basically; the express lanes seemed to be halfway decent, but the 2 lane local side of things, which is where I was, was moving at a snail’s pace. That’s OK… I’m in no rush.

As I lined up to merge on at Fullerton, I started getting pissed. You see, there was a car in the right hand lane that was absolutely riding the guy in front of him’s ass, so as not to let one of the merging cars on the expressway; what a jagoff I thought. If you choose to ride that lane, you must understand it is a merge lane, and yes, cars have to get on the expressway. I thought… I wish I was up in line next, because I’d stick my nose right in the 2 feet that separated dickhead’s frontend from the bumper in front of him; I sure would do it. But, I was like 6-7 cars back… OK, let’s breathe.

Once I finally got on, it was this same exercise at every entrance ramp heading into the Loop, and you know what? People actually were doing it right! Every other car… merging car comes on, car on the expressway goes, merging car comes on, car on the expressway goes; it was amazing how smooth things can go if people do it right. My faith in humanity had been restored. This is what it looks like to work together. Maybe I just got on a lucky roll…

You see, you can’t judge too much based on how people drive… well, you can, but… with so many idiots on the road, your faith in humanity may be shaken to the core if you spend enough time on the road. It’s not quite as bad as social media, but you get what I’m saying right? If you deduced how this world was based on the drivers on the road, you’d have a pretty ugly picture. Funny enough, things in Chicago wouldn’t be halfway as bad as things in LA; talk about some asshole drivers. But yes, sometimes, I may be that asshole. I try not to be, I really do, but sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do, and that may piss some people off, and they may think about me, what I think about many drivers on the road. I apologize in advance for those handful of times.

One of my ideas to make the world better? Be a nicer driver. Yes, although I may zip around now and then, for the most part, I try to chill behind the wheel… Two cars at the stop sign at the same time; let the other guy go. If you see pedestrians wanting to cross in enough time, stop and wave them across. Guy trying to turn across oncoming traffic, stop and wave them through. Then maybe, your niceness will be paid forward, and around and around we go… but then what about if people don’t acknowledge your niceness with a wave… assholes!!! Haha… and back to the start we go…

And ALWAYS be nice to the guys driving the big rigs……one of them may be carrying your next pizza, or taco, or whatever you may be waiting for……
