I was hoping to get back on the poker tables on our last night in Vegas, but who knows; we’ll see how it goes. Another day of eating, walking, and going in the pool. We always had one of those big slushie drinks in our hands too; we had two different ones actually, that we refilled. Keeping a constant buzz in Vegas is a good plan; I’m not driving anywhere. It does however take its toll… the heat beating down on you too. This may have contributed to my first night early knock out, besides my age of course… haha. Would the same happen on my final night?
As we got back to the room just before 10, I laid down, started getting comfortable… may have even dozed off for a few, but… not tonight, not my last night in Vegas this time around; got out of bed a little before 11, and headed down. It’s time to play a cash game. My confidence was low, considering my performance the night before in the tourney. I don’t play that often any more, unless you count the app on my iPad. I don’t like playing online for money; I don’t go to the casinos around the house. There really aren’t a whole lot of house games, so… this is really it. As I sat down, I bought in for the minimum of $100; the table was no-limit, 1-3.
One of my favorite parts of playing in Vegas is BSing with the people at the table. There was an Eagles fan, a Commanders fan, a guy from Toronto, a guy from the Bay, a guy from Iowa; it was fun shooting the shit with them, as we proceeded to fold our hands. It was going about the same for me; I was down to my last few chips about 2 hours in; well, this is it. I ended up hitting middle pair on the board, and went all-in; it held. Whew! My next all-in moment was a little crazier. I had a little more chips at the time, and went all in with a pair of deuces, after a guy before me raised; he turned over A-3. OK, we got ourselves a race. I was safe on the flop; the turn was a 3… WTF! But, but… I did have outs; one of the remaining 2s OR another diamond; there were 3 diamonds on the board, and I had the 2 of diamonds. River… diamond, bam! I survived, again. Trying to remember my 3rd all-in moment, but I survived that too. My final all-in moment came; I had A-J off suit. After hitting a J on the flop, I went all-in; guy called me chasing a flush, diamonds. He hit the flush on the turn, but, but… I had the J of diamonds, and wouldn’t you know… the river brought another diamond, and a higher flush for me. I took a rough beat when I turned a set and lost when the guy hit his straight on the river. Oh yeah, my other all-in moment was when I flopped a set of 8s; I pushed on the turn when flush and straight possibilities were out there; he folded though. I should have had a 5th all-in moment when dude raises my pocket 10s; I just called… it ended up holding up against AK. All in all, about 5 hours later, I got up from the table, down $25; not a bad night in the office. I was almost gone 3 hours ago, then 2 hours ago, then 1 hour ago… I kept surviving, ended up going up $50 before that rough hand, and only ended up down a bit. I’ll take it.
I was very satisfied with the way I played. I did misplay another hand or two, but did well on some others; practice makes perfect, and I just don’t play enough. Until next time Vegas…
