How good are the Cubs right now? I’ll answer that question… pretty damn good. 4th best team in baseball. The only thing that sucks about that statement is that 2 of the 3 teams that have a better record are in the same division. Cardinals, Royals, Pirates, and Cubs…. MLB’s top 4 teams. Who woulda thunk it?
With another sweep in progress at Wrigley this Thursday afternoon, the Cubs are playing their best baseball in 7 years. Today, the home run ball was their friend; five and counting. Nine runs and counting… Schwarber with 2, Fowler, Rizzo, and Denorfia all went deep. This Brewer team is pretty pathetic, but damn…
It was a home run yesterday, the walk off variety, that kept this current Cubs winning streak alive. Miguel Montero deposited one into the left field bleachers, yep, opposite field power. This is fun.
7 straight wins after today. 10-1 in August. 14-2 since getting swept by the Phillies in Wrigley. Next up… White Sox.
They’ve won 3 in a row…woo hoo! The Sox will need plenty more wins to get back in the wild card picture in the AL. The crosstown classic is their next opportunity. So between the 2 teams, 10 wins in a row… Who will blink first?
Hendricks vs Samardzjia in game 1 on Friday. I want to rock Shark. I hope the Cubs don’t allow him out of the 1st. He’s been good for getting cracked around. I don’t think any other pitchers have had more games giving up more than 6 ER… something like that, I’m not going to research it. I’m ready to get our first shot at him, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Will he quiet the Cubs bats? Will the Sox slow down this train?

Usually in this series, the opposite of what you think will happen happens, although that wasn’t what happened in the first 3. Sox won a close one. Sale dominated game 2. Arrieta dominated game 3. Very tightly played series; I expect the same this time around.
It’s a rematch of Quintana and Arrieta in game 2, while Sale will get Haren this time around in the final game. This is going to be a fun series. I definitely want to win this one, and even the season series. I’d love to sweep these guys…
I’m pumped up. Any time the Cubs are good, the excitement ramps up quickly. It’s ramping up as we speak. So the final 3 outs in the books, and it’s official… another sweep, so all those number above hold true. I would have hated to jinx it…
There’s that jinx word… next is curse. There will be plenty of those shirts at the cell this weekend, because that’s really all they could say right now. Dust off the 2005 world series shirts, and show off your 1 title because the Cubs got zip in this century. It’s nice to be able to say that, and I always tell Sox fans to cherish that title, because that’s the only one you’ll see in your lifetime. It’s our turn now, so please don’t stand in the way. Sox fans, please don’t be too bitter, or hateful of the Cubs recent success, and future outlook… you have your one title… there is no reason why you shouldn’t be content.
Let’s all root for the Cubs this weekend. They are after all this city’s best chance at a World Series this year. Sox have theirs, it’s the Cubs turn now, because it’s not about looking back, it’s about looking forward. And I keep wanting to make this bet with a Sox fan, but definitely won’t have any takers now… who will win the next World Series… Cubs or Sox? That’s the question I want to pose this weekend in the Cell.
How good are the Cubs? Right now, they’re awesome, but we all know it’s only August… better than being hot in April, not as good as being hot in September/October. Let’s keep it going and steamroll these 2nd class citizens this weekend. GO CUBS GO!!!!!!
true Chicago
And while you ask the Sox fans to lay down and root for the Cubs this week-end, I ask you how many of your ‘Cubs first’ fans were rooting for the Sox back in 2005?????

Cubs look damn good! So hard not to be excited and optimistic. This team is young and hungry, and right now they are on fire. If we can stay hot to finish the year and enter the playoffs, anything can happen. One game at a time, though. Time to catch a shark today…hope we can keep the brooms handy through the weekend!
GO CUBS GO!!!
