You know I’m getting old when I’m knocking out early on the first night in Vegas. Sure, we were up early to get to the airport, and we didn’t get back to the room on Sunday night until about 1030pm or so. Still, we’re in Vegas!!! As we all laid down to relax, I got comfortable; I was done for the evening. There’ll always be another night.
It’s not a bad thing that I didn’t gamble on the first night in Vegas, historically speaking. Out of all the Vegas trips, I’ve only won a handful of times, and even those times, I didn’t win on the first night. If I had tracked it, I would bet you that I NEVER came out ahead after the first night of gambling in Vegas; it’s just not in the cards. There was my first night in Vegas ever; I don’t recall exactly how that went, but I do know I was down heading into the last night of that first trip… I remember that last night. I remember trips with the guys where we couldn’t wait to hit the floor running; we were drinking out of a fire hose… give me all the liquor and gambling you got Vegas. That combination with our over anxiousness… didn’t end well. There was one first night where I dropped over 1K… I think closer to 1500; that was a rough trip. Then there were those trips with my girlfriend, before she was my wife. I walked confidently to the tables with her, and proceeded to drop a couple hundred bucks… haha. As the 3rd phase of my Vegas trips began, my bankroll shrank; that’s what getting married, buying a house, and having a kid does to it. Little by little I started doing less and less gambling, yet whatever gambling I did on the first night, again, did not end positively. On this particular trip, the only gambling I did on night one, was $10 in the airport slot machine; I lost. Like I said, the more things change, the more things stay the same…
Losing $10 on a day in Vegas is definitely considered a win. Sure, I was $10 lighter, but all things considered… I’d sign up for losing $10 a day in Vegas every time I go from here until my last days. Of course, the caveat would be that I was gambling all day, and not just one ten in a slot. To almost break even after gambling all day… big time win; my bar is not that high. One day I’ll come home a winner… in gambling that is; I’m already a winner, at least that’s what I tell myself every day when I look in the mirror… haha.
So yeah, food, pool, walking the Strip… that was the extent of the first day/night activities; I’m good. I did see a potential landing spot for my 2nd night in Vegas; a hold-em tournament at 11pm. Yeah, that may work. Before that, more food, pool, and walking the Strip…
