August 12, 2022: Fielding Dreams

So how’d you like the Field of Dreams game? Being on vacation, I was fielding dreams in Magic Kingdom during the time the game was played, and didn’t see one inning; I wasn’t upset. Look, I love watching the Cubs, and try to do so whenever I can; maybe I should have made a better effort considering it was this “special game”. Nah.

I didn’t watch last year’s either, which was mostly because I was hating on the Sox; it was a nice moment for them, beating the Yankees in walk-off fashion in the first ever Field of Dreams game. Some people have even said the Sox peaked that night; time will tell on that one. At least that game had two playoff teams in there… This year’s tilt featured two of the worst teams in the majors. The only thing the Cubs had going for them is the location of their AAA team, which I’m sure helped contribute to the amount of Cubs fans that attended this evening; I’m assuming it was lopsided?

Something else I heard about was the Harry Caray hologram; who cares. Harry is up there helping God with his green apples, looking down with a Budweiser in hand, shaking his head at how they disassembled the only World Series team this side of 1908. I do love seeing him on the scoreboard (actual video of REAL Harry) during the 7th inning stretches at Wrigley. But a hologram? I’ll pass. I did watch the highlights. Cubs scored a bunch of runs in the 1st, which is something we’ve seen many times this year; the nice thing on this evening in Iowa, is that they didn’t blow it, which we’ve seen an equal amount of times. The coolest moment watching the highlights was seeing Fergie throw out the first pitch to Johnny Bench; now that was sweet. The other cool moment was seeing Ken Griffey Jr play catch with his dad. The whole “have a catch” vs “playing catch”… who the hell says have a catch? Nobody I’ve ever heard in my lifetime.

Yeah, it would have been nice if the Cubs were actually doing something this year. I guess the ironic part of it all, for the Iowa fans, is that they actually get to watch a game, considering they get blacked out most times; thanks MLB. Still, fans paid a ton of money for these tickets; it is pretty cool I guess… Nice for the Cubs to get the W; one of the biggest wins they’ll get all year, sadly. Luckily it was against another bad team; the Cubs do OK in those contests…

I guess that pretty much sums it up. I guess my whole attitude about this season is really putting a damper on my enjoyment of anything baseball. I’ll keep plugging along; I always do. What else did I miss?
