I was flying high after that Cubs win on Thursday in Cincy. The next 2 games weren’t so pretty. How many chances did we have on Friday night? Saturday was ugly. That left Sunday for the Cubs to salvage the split against the Reds, and stay semi on pace for the 6-4 minimum record I was hoping for on this road trip.
We got it. Big time home run by Kris Bryant. Outstanding pitching by Rowan Wick coming out of the bullpen, and a pretty uneventful save by Pedro. It felt like a really good win… it was a really good win. I’m thankful that we’re not coming back here this year. It’s been a rough go against these guys. 4-6 in Cincy was ugly.
Geez that kid Aquino looks pretty good. It’s early, but if he keeps this up… I guess I should have listened and picked him up off the waiver wire in our fantasy league. The pitching too… Bauer had a sick curve ball. Sonny Gray shut us down. Castillo was going good there for a while before the Reds manager pulled him. That’s a pretty decent start to a rotation. But the guy that always kills the Cubs, like to historic proportions, is Eugenio Suarez. My favorite memory of him was when we made the trek to Cincy. It got rained out, but we sat there, waiting for the game to start. Between clips of the 30 for 30 episode on the Nasty Boys, they showed Suarez on the big screen dancing salsa. It was hilarious. It’s not that funny what he does to the Cubs.

Number one doesn’t take a scientist; Pujols hit 57 against us. Braun, or juice boy as I like to refer to him by, has hit 39. Votto with 35 which includes one in this series, McCutcheon with 23, and then Eugenio, in a lot less time… he’s got 22 now after this latest series. Every series we play against him, he’s taking us deep. I know all time we’re talking Mike Schmidt and Willie Mays, but Suarez has done some damage against us.
Who would have thought? The Reds hanging tough… it’d be nice if they could beat the Cardinals and Brewers now. When I was bouncing around on Twitter, I saw something like Cubs Hate Week trending. I guess Reds fans don’t like us too much either; I guess any place we’re invading in thousands probably takes issue with it. Sorry we have fans, I guess… haha. Their broadcaster Thom Brennaman falls into that feeling too. That’s what made his call of KBs go ahead home run that much more sweeter. He was so disgusted… That made me so happy.
It also makes me happy looking at the standings, and seeing the 2 game lead over the Cardinals (should have been 3 if they didn’t pull a comeback out of their ass against the pitiful Pirates), and 2.5 games over the Brewers. Let’s enjoy the day off before we invade Pennsylvania. Phillies and then those pitiful Pirates to end the road trip. Let’s go Cubs!
