Today marks the 100th post on this website.  I’d like to thank everybody who comes to this website to read what I have to say about my teams.  I truly appreciate all the comments, and encourage more… from everyone who visits.  The more comments, whether positive or negative, the better the site will be.  Since I paid for a year of hosting, I will continue to post at least 265 more times after today on this website, and hopefully longer.  It’s been quite a ride so far…

The whole thing was prompted by another epic Cubs loss.  It wasn’t the most epic, but it was a 5 run blown lead on the 100th anniversary of Wrigley Field.  I was so upset, that I had to do something.  I had to let these feelings out, and express them some way.  These are the same feelings that take me on the yearly roller coaster ride with all my teams; the same ride that I try to share here daily.  So, thelocalsportstalk.com was born… sort of.  I began writing daily, as I researched the whole blog/website thing.  Finally, on May 8th, the website was live, and I posted everything I had written up to that point.  Now we were rolling…

We began this journey in the midst of the Blackhawks and Bulls playoff runs.  That was fun while it lasted.  We talked plenty of Cubs Sox stuff, and we’ve begun to talk more and more Bears as the football season approaches.  I’ve shared plenty of personal details, as I try to show how this stuff that takes place on the field, court, & ice impacts my daily existence.  It’s not something I can really control, it just kind of is what it is.  I live and die with my teams.  Although it is not the same intensity every year, every week, every game, it is something that never goes away.  It’s this “sickness” that I share…  it’s this die-hard fandom that makes me nuts.  I agonize in the defeats and celebrate in the victories; there is no in-between.

Writing daily has been pretty easy so far.  Besides there always being something to talk about in Chicago sports, there are many, many thoughts & stories in my head to share.  If I ever have “writer’s block”, I wait until the morning, walk my dog, and bang out about 600-700 words.  I have always liked writing.  I always did well in school and I wrote for the Ritan; my high school newspaper.  I thank my English teacher from St. Rita, Dr. Racky, who was also the newspaper editor, for helping me fine tune my writing skills and understand how to correctly use the English language.  Hopefully, most of that is reflected in my daily blurb.  I try to combine these “skills” with one of my lifelong passions, Chicago sports, to produce some cool stuff.

Although it’s easy to write, it is time consuming.  Finding 30-60 minutes daily, based on what I’m writing, is not as easy as you think.  We stay committed… so far so good.

I look forward to more great things from this website.  I have a ton of ideas, and need to find the time to learn how to incorporate them.  I started the Hate Files: a way to let some of the hate out that I have for other teams/individuals; I still have more in the chamber.  I am looking forward to starting more features, like Top 10 lists, Fantasy Confidential, and more.  We may see some interviews, and some more reporting from live events.  We may see some guest contributors who share this passion, that will drop in from time to time sharing some of their opinions & experiences.  The sky is the limit!

As I end this 100th edition, I reflect on the state of Chicago.  The Sox are mediocre, and the Cubs suck.  The Sox look to build around 2 great stars, while I believe the Cubs will be something next year; something that will bring me joy… more joy than they’ve brought me these last 3 years.  The Bears are primed for a return to the playoffs.  I firmly believe this, and look forward to the Bears rejoining my Sunday routine of Church and the Beatles.  The Bulls and the Blackhawks both have championship aspirations.  The Bulls are looking to get back to the Conference Finals with a healthy Rose, and go further to bring home that 7th title.  The Blackhawks look to win 3 Cups in 6 years, after last year’s rude interruption of the dynasty in the making.

These are great times in Chicago sports, and I’m glad to be in the middle of it.  I look forward to my reward for being a die hard fan, as I look to my teams to achieve the ultimate glory.  I will continue to share my thoughts on all this and more.  Thank you for coming along for the ride so far; the best is yet to come!

Love the site and look forward to the daily reading. It isn’t always easy to comment so I can’t imagine it being easy to type these up daily…good job!
Looking forward to the Bears season…playoffs and beyond sounds good to me space ranger!
Hoping Drose and the Bulls come together and stay healthy to make a serious run this year…would love to send laqueen and his princesses to the showers early!
The Bhawks are who we thought they are…championship contenders again this year who should be even hungrier after coming up a game short of back2back Cup wins (yes, we would have dominated nyr just like the kings).
Chicago baseball leaves me feeling empty watching less than .500 ball being played daily.
Thanks for the blogs and look forward to more! Who knows where this road will lead, but exciting times lie ahead!

    Hang in there.
Also can’t imagine how you find the time or thought processes to continue this for a month let alone a little over 3 months. But, as you said, there’s ALWAYS something to talk about in Chicago sports…good or bad, ALWAYS something!
