April 9, 2017: Masters

posted in: Cubs | 1

I’m talking about the Cubs of course.  Our Masters of Chicago showing the same championship glow with another series victory.  Two series, two series wins.  The only 2 losses came the walk-off variety.  Thus, I must conclude, the only way the Cubs will lose a ball game all year is via the walk off.  The Cubs are the best team in baseball again!

No, no…I mean, yes, they are pretty awesome, but this isn’t about the Cubs.  I’m not going to sit here and toot their horn over a victory against a minor league Brewers ball club.  Their only major league player did the damage, but it was far from enough.  No, I’m waiting to talk more Cubs until Monday, which I almost took off from work for.  But back to THIS blog…

Yes, I did actually watch the end of the Masters on Sunday.  I was talking trash about it just a few days before…

Who the heck really cares about golf?  Why is everybody making such a big deal about the Masters?  I’ve never really been a big golf fan… I’m still not.  My brother in law was talking crap when I sent out a text about the Hole In One, and Matt Kuchar, this guy I had never heard of.  So yeah, that tells you how much I watch golf.  Heck, I barely play any more.  Last year zero times!!!  That will not be repeated.  We have to at least get on the board… it’s already planned for this year, so we’re good.

I did start watching more golf when a certain Tiger Woods was playing.  I think he did that for the game with a lot of us.  The guy was awesome, on his way to breaking all the records of the game.  Until…  yeah, the women…  and there went his mojo along with his marriage.  Now, throw in injuries, and who knows if he will win another major in his lifetime.  So, since he’s been gone, my interest has faded.

But, I did tune in Sunday afternoon once the Cubs game concluded.  I saw the Hole In One… just awesome.  And then for him to sign it, and give it to that kid; that was a beautiful thing.  Then the drama started to kick in.

As if this last 12 months in sports hasn’t been exciting enough…  Am I just riding that Cubs wave still?  Is every sporting event seemingly awesome?  Is every championship game ranking up there in the best of all time?  I don’t know where this Masters ranks, but it was a good battle down the stretch between Justin “don’t call me Derrick” Rose and Sergio “I’ve never won a major” Garcia.  We can’t call Sergio that any more.

He finally won.  He blew an easy putt (like I can make those) on 18.  Then, Rose self destructed on the playoff hole, which left the door wide open for a 2 putt for the win (I actually think I could have 2 putted that in).  Sergio didn’t need it, although I will say this:  if Rose makes his par putt, I think Sergio misses his, and the playoff would continue.  But he didn’t, and Sergio did, and that was that.

So yeah, I watched a little golf, and actually blogged about it.  Let’s snap out of that quick.  The Blackhawks playoffs start Thursday, the Bulls decide if they want to make the playoffs between Monday & Wednesday, and a certain team raises their 2016 World Series Championship Banner on Monday night at Wrigley…  Clear my calendar Monday afternoon; I have to get home early.  I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time…

The Masters! I always enjoy watching golf although I do not do it a lot. It is much easier watching it and relaxing than playing it and sucking. Sucked that the favorite got hurt the night before his round and had to withdraw. Slipped down some stairs? Sounds like an excuse I used back in high school when I really got hurt playing basketball during baseball season…hahaha. Was not able to catch as much Masters as I would have liked but saw enough highlights to think that this year’s was pretty damn good considering no tiger or favorite. Tiger brought a lot of people to the game of golf, myself included. That Sunday red shirt tradition was pretty cool. On this Sunday, Sergio finally got his major. Not a real fan of his, but he has been doing it a long time to have 0 majors. So congrats to him and onto the US Open in June. Yes, other tourneys between now and then, but the 4 majors are the main events in golf. Time to talk about other, more important, champions…the Chicago Cubs!
