For the third time this week, all four teams were in action. The first time resulted in a 1-3 record; the Cubs were the only win. The second time on Thursday ended up with a 3-1 record; the Blackhawks were the only loss. This time around, on this Saturday night, it would be a split decision; 2-2 with the teams about ready to start the playoffs with the losses.
That doesn’t sound good, but it’s not that bad, especially in the case of the Blackhawks. Tuning out the last few games, I was hoping they’d get one of them to get that 25th and record road win; they didn’t. They did get a point tonight, which results in their 2nd best regular season of all time. Their best record of all time? 2010. The ending that year? Stanley Cup. The first round opppment that year? Nashville. The first round opponent this year? Nashville.
I remember that 2010 match up fondly. The only really scary moment of that postseason run (although since I hadn’t seen a Cup in my lifetime before, they were all kind of scary) came at the UC against them in Game 5. We were about to head back to Nashville down 3-2 before we scored a short handed game tying goal to force OT, then won when Hossa came out of the box to light the lamp. We also beat Nashville in the first round in 2015; ending that year was a Cup. Kind of like my son’s preK homework… What’s the pattern?
If anyone is able to find a pattern with our Bulls you’d be a genius. How do we lose to the worst team in the NBA with our playoff lives on the line? Ok, maybe not that dramatic. Yes, they are the worst team, and yes, we haven’t clinched postseason games yet, but we’re still in decent shape. We still hold our own destiny. Win at home against the 28 win Magic and 20 win Nets and we’re in. Looking at the Cavs again if we don’t totally blow it…

The winners today were our baseball teams. Yes, the Sox won, giving the juggernaut Twins their first loss of the season. They’re 2-2 on this young season. Sox fans will probably be keeping one eye on the minors, like us Cubs fans were 5 years ago. By the way, Moncada is mashing. Glad to see that, especially after seeing Sale start his Cy Young season in Boston with an impressive outing.
And to finish the round up, we go to Milwaukee where the Cubs pounded a minor league…wait, I’m being told that is actually the Major League Brewers lineup. Yeah, I know they got us on Friday night; that may be the only game these AAAers win against us all year. Honestly, just happy that collision wasn’t worse. On the one year anniversary of the Schwarber injury, we almost lost Baez. Trade that fortunate outcome for the loss. Nice to see the Cubs offense wake up. Expecting a series win tomorrow in Milwaukee before returning home for the home opener. Yeah baby!
Ok, that about covers it. Bulls Monday and Wednesday at the UC, so Hawks will play Game 1 on Thursday I’m assuming. Cubs home opener Monday night. Busy week ahead. Ready to rock!

I like these quad pack games. How can you not as a Chicago sports fan? 3rd time in a week and the teams finish 6-6.
Bhawks loss meant nothing but not getting that road win record. They are not locked in against the preds in the first round…no let down boys!
Bulls blow a 9 point 4th quarter lead with 4 mins left to the worst team in the nba…way to fight for your playoff life Bulls! 2 games left to lock it in…dont blow it.
Sox win to even their record at 2-2. How nice is it to see avisail garcia be off to such a great start? 8-16 so far…pretty impressive. If he has a good first half, will he become a trade tool or remain a part of the rebuild?
Cubs destroy the brewpoo. 17 hits and 11 runs…the offense was due to explode. Few guys with 3 hits each and good balance up and down the deep lineup. Not good seeing hendricks give up a couple bombs, but he should be fine.
Looking forward to another great week of Chicago sports. Most importantly, time to get ready for another Cup run…Go Bhawks!!!
