After starting the season with an Opening Day thud, the Cubs have bounced back. With a win against the Brewers on Monday night at Wrigley, the Cubs are now enjoying their first winning streak of the season. They are tied with the Reds at 3-1 in first place in the NL Central.
It’s early though… I would definitely be saying that if the Cubs’ record was flipped at 1-3, so I guess I should say that now? It is true. The Pirates and the Brewers aren’t exactly the cream of the crop competition, but that doesn’t matter, especially to start the season. You don’t want to get out to a slow start, and spend time digging out of that early season hole… although didn’t the Cubs start quickly last year too? Yes, they did, and they ended up making the playoffs, which is still the goal for the Cubbies. Don’t want to be too good too early… I like the fact that the boys are flying under the radar a bit this year. Let’s slowly remind MLB that we’re still here.
It all started with the return of Jake. I was keeping track during my son’s birthday celebration. I saw him give up the run early; that was all we would give up. I was hoping he had some left in the tank; I think the fact that he is back HERE will ensure that we will see everything he’s got left… and then some. Seeing Jake take the mound in a Cubs uniform again really felt good; it brought back a ton of good feelings. Let’s add this win in his first game back to that list. Then it was Kyle Davies, you know, the only major leaguer we acquired in the Yu Darvish trade. Again, keeping track during more birthday and Easter celebrations, it was good to win that first series. Since we are speaking about pitching thus far, it’s good to see Kimbrel get off to a good start. Imagine if he returns to his dominant form… that would be a good thing.

Love the whole story about his dad, and how they grew up Cubs fans; how cool is that? Then seeing your son take a perfect game into the 6th inning… I know I would have been a wreck if my son were doing that. So every starter besides Kyle Hendricks pitched well first time around; we’ll take that. One more to go on Tuesday night as AA will try to help the Cubs extend their winning streak to four.
The best part about the season thus far is seeing fans back in Wrigley. I’ve talked about it before, but I do believe that the Cubs were one of the teams that suffered the most without fans last year, both at home and on the road. Sure, it wasn’t always like that at Wrigley… with the 84 season helping to shift that, but it has been for a very long time… although night games in April are hit and miss. Monday night was a hit as far as the weather goes; Tuesday night looks to be the same. More importantly, the weather for Wednesday’s day game looks to be awesome; that is the day we will make our return to Wrigley for the first time in more than a year. Maybe we’ll even get to see a win… maybe a Hendricks bounce back performance… maybe a no hitter? Haha… I’ll just take some nice weather for starters. I’ll be guaranteed to sing the stretch if that’s the case…. Go Cubs Go would be nice too. Keep it rolling boys. Go Cubs!
