Ever heard of that saying “caught in 4K”? Now my son has never said that; he’s shared many other slang sayings they have in 7th grade in 2025. I kind of figured what it meant, but double checked just to be sure. 4K refers to the pixel resolution of a video/photo which will clearly show something that cannot be refuted. OK, makes sense. With all the cameras out there today, plenty of chances to get “caught in 4K”; it wasn’t always like that. In fact, I’m glad it wasn’t like that when I was growing up; can’t imagine all the stupid shit I did being captured forever in a video… good God. Poor kids growing up today… good luck!
4K though… 4,000… this is my 4,000th blog; imagine that? In the middle of a big week, on the 4th day of the 4th month, comes my 4,000th blog on this website. Wow; this milestone kind of snuck up on me. Glad I’ve kept it going all these years. 4000/365 = almost 11 years; holy shit. 4000 x 550 words on average = 2.2 million words I’ve written. I was never a bullshitter, but man can I write, type I guess. Who writes anything any more? Shit, kids aren’t even taught cursive in school; signatures will no longer be necessary. I think of this as sort of my diary, most of the time focused on Chicago sports, but definitely some personal stuff mixed in, especially this past year, but always a sprinkle here and there. You’ve heard it before… mixing my passion for Chicago sports and writing, I’ve found a way to “release” things out of my head and put them down on paper, on a screen actually, that is saved onto a website; I’ll also copy and paste it on twitter, or I guess X… I still call it Twitter. I think the routine of it all is something I love too; I love my routines. I understand change is inevitable, some good and some bad, and it seems as if nothing stays the same… except this here blog. I’m like the energizer bunny.
And now, I’ll accept the award for reaching the 4,000 blog milestone. First of all, I’d like to thank my day job, for having many meetings that I must attend but don’t really contribute to, giving me key minutes to knock out a blog. I’d like to thank my dedicated readers, kind of like the Marines, the few, the proud… Heck, even those that check in from time to time and/or catch up every once in a while; I get it. I play the catch up game too, in fact, I’m doing it right now. I’d like to thank my Chicago sports teams. Although it’s better when they’re really good, the fact that they’ve been really bad gives me an opportunity to talk shit; have had plenty of chances for that in the past couple years. I’d like to thank my family and friends for providing many great memories over the years that I can intertwine in my words from time to time; I understand there are many that I have left out, some for a reason… haha. My wife, my son, thank you… I do this all for you; that’s not really true… I do it for me… in fact, since I’m not making any cash doing this… well, maybe one day my son can take over and turn this into something, or not; he does like when I read some to him here and there. I’d like to say we’ll be around for another 4,000, but instead, I’ll just be thankful for the journey thus far; I look forward to continuing this journey for many years, God willing. Thank you, thank you, and just like life, we take this here thing one day at a time, tomorrow is not promised today, and all that good stuff. Until tomorrow… be happy. I crack myself up…
