April 4, 2017: The Quad Pack

posted in: Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs, White Sox | 2

So you say you love Chicago sports?  How did you like the quad pack on this 4th day of the 4th month of 2017?

How did you handle 4 games on one day?  This is a challenge that we may run into a couple more times before it’s all said and done this year.  This setup wasn’t too bad.

The Sox played early in front of a packed house at the Cell.  I’m kidding of course.  It was packed yesterday, but the game got cancelled; that sucks.  Today was a more typical attendance day at Sox Park; I just realized I called it the Cell…oops.  But back to the challenge at hand, watching all 4 games.  If you wanted to watch the Sox and Tigers, God bless; that was easy with no competing interest early in the day.  One game down; one loss in the books.

Next up was the 7pm start: the Bulls vs Knicks and the Cubs vs Cardinals.  With the season the Bulls have been having, easy call right?  Maybe not.  They have been hot.  They are back in playoff position.  This game had playoff implications.  Certainly more than enough to tune in vs game 2 of the Cubs season, right?  Split decision.  The Bulls were on in the front room and the Cubs were on in the bedroom.  I watched the beginning of the Cubs game, while switching to the Bulls late in their game.

Even when the third game of the evening came on at 8pm with the Blackhawks and Avalanche; I didn’t flinch.  No need to turn on the Blackhawks tonight.  Like I said in the other blog, I wouldn’t zone in again until the playoffs which are right around the corner.  I would monitor the score via Twitter, catching all the goals, which at this point of the night is three:  Bread Man, Hartman, and Kruger Man. We’ll tune in after the Bulls and Cubs.

Back to those Bulls, and it figured.  The Bulls laid an egg on the road to the pitiful Knicks.  This is the Bulls team I’ve been used to watching this year.  They are still in control of their own destiny, which is still a scary proposition.  Two games in, two losses in.  Now back to the Cubs.

And it was just in time.  I saw Jake get out of the bases loaded jam in the 6th.  Nice game for Jake to open the season.  He left with a 2-1 lead.  Koji was brought in for the 7th, and he gave up a drive that setup the play of the night.  Albert Almora robbed a HR with a beautiful catch.  It’s definitely worth watching the replay if you missed it.  Then Strop for the 8th; he always scares me.  He got it done.  Then our first look at Wade Davis in the 9th.  And with a Baez web gem, we got our first W of the night, and first W of the season for the Cubs.

Now back to the Hawks; 3-3?!?!  Let’s see how this plays out; give me a minute.  Wait, 45 saves for Darling?!?  A nice defensive play by TVR.  The Hawks blew a three goal lead, but are trying really hard to get something out of this one; it’s 3:32 left in the third.  Who you got?

Crowd chanting Let’s Go Hawks on the road.  Toews jawing at the refs and the lanche.  Hawks trying for their franchise best 25th road victory.  With one point in the bank, this one would be decided in OT…and it would NOT be a happy ending.  4-3 Hawks lose.

Now that’s a busy day and night of Chicago sports.  It was fun, but not that much fun, losing three of four.  We’ll take that Cubs win, and hope the rest get them next time.  Good night.

4 Chicago sports teams playing on the same day…pretty cool. What wasnt cool was losing 3 of 4. The Cubs got their first W of the season to keep Chicago from going 0-4. They are now 1-1 as they will look to win the first series vs the red turds. The sox lost their home opener. The Bhawks lost in ot as they rest some guys gearing up for their Cup run. And to finish it off, the Bulls lost another game they should have won as they look to keep things interesting right down to the last game. The Cubs and sox are just getting going on their way to 162 and beyond. The Bhawks and Bulls are finishing up their 82. The Bhawks are the top team in the west and will have at least 1 playoff series left. The Bulls are tied with 2 other teams in a fight for 2 playoff spots. Another 4 game day/night on Thursday. How will Chicago end up? Stay tuned.
