April 30, 2015: Calm Before the Storm

posted in: Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs, White Sox | 0

It’s about to get crazy again.  It’s been a couple days since the Bulls stunk up the gym, more than that since we’ve seen the Hawks skate, and a while since a big Bears weekend; it’s about to start up again tonight.

We did have the Cubs and Sox play yesterday…. getting outscored by a combined 16-3 score.  The Sox game was something to see.  To play in front of an empty stadium has to be pretty weird; although the Sox do that most of the time at home (sorry, had to take that shot).  Samardzjia got knocked around the park.  Hopefully, he doesn’t have some injury that he’s not talking about… hopefully that injury didn’t happen in the Royal scrum where he was acting like Rocky out there.  Better yet, let’s just hope it’s a slow start for him.  It’s still early, and plenty of time to show the Sox and any other team for that matter, why he should get PAID next year.

The Cubs threw Hendricks on the mound.  He had a great time in the majors last year in his rookie season.  This year, not so much.  The Cubs are really counting on him to be good, especially with their current starting pitching rotation.  The Cubs finished April with a 12-8 record; not bad.  So, if this continues, if this keeps up for another 1-2 months, it’s time to add another starter.  If they’re able to continue their winning ways, we’ll definitely need to add a starter to get to that next level.  Let’s cross that bridge if/when we get there.

The Bears are about to make their first draft pick IN Chicago in about 50 years; the Pace regime is about to make their first pick EVER.  No pressure Ryan.  From listening to him, he seems like they have a few guys lined up for that #7 pick.  The decision may be made for them based on the guys picked 1 through 6.  We can always hope for a draft day deal including Cutler…  can you imagine that being announced at the draft in Chicago in front of our fans on national TV?  Now THAT would be starting the regime with a bang, although many moves have already been made.  Stay tuned.

The Hawks are set to begin their next series.  It’s a familiar foe the Minnesota Wild.  We beat them on the way to the Cup in 2013 in 5 games.  We beat them last year in 6 games.  Is it going to take 7 this year?  Will the Wild finally crack us one?  The way they’ve finished the season, with their new goalie, has been impressive.  This will be their true measuring stick.  This should be another good test for the Hawks.  Just because we knocked them out the past 2 years, let’s not relax here…  Play hard boys, stay focused, move on.

First thing is first though, it’s the Bulls Bucks Game 6.  Never thought we’d even be in this game.  I wasn’t expecting my blood pressure to rise in this series…  This was supposed to be a dress rehearsal for the Cavs…  Now, this series has become a series.  There is hate developing for the Bucks, and a small amount of fear of losing the series.  Let’s stop all this nonsense, and really play like we can tonight.  There is no need for a Game 7… anything can happen in a one game series… let’s avoid that… at least in the first round.  End it tonight!

So the calm before the storm is about to end… 5 hours until tip off… a little longer than that for the Bears pick… tomorrow night for the Hawks.  Get ready to get back on that roller coaster ride.  No hands baby, no hands…
