I think I would have felt much better had the Bears drafted Mitchell Trubisky with our original third overall pick…
The emotions that ran through me were many. When it was announced that the Bears traded up, I was confused; nobody had talked about the Bears trading up one slot to the second pick overall. What was this about? When it was announced that the pick was Mitchell Trubisky, shocked was probably the best word. When I found out how much we gave up, I almost lost my damn mind. I thought the Bears couldn’t F this up…
My mind was racing. I called my brother. What the hell just happened? Why did we have to give up 4 picks to move up one slot? Ok, so it was really 3 picks, considering we just swapped the first rounders; I was trying to make myself feel a little better. The Niners weren’t going to take him. Why the need to move up? Word on the street was that the Niners had other offers. At this point, that’s a mystery. I wonder if the truth will ever come out.
As I continued to rant, another word that came out was ballsy. Here was Pace, sacrificing two other picks in this year’s “deep” draft, with a team that has many needs, to select a guy at #2, who has one year of starting experience, at a non-football school, and may not see the field this year. Wow. So all the emotions flowing right now will not be validated until potentially 2 years from now…
I hope he’s right. He must have liked him that much. Reports were he didn’t even work out for us. There was no other communication between the Bears and him. He was truly shocked himself. Personally, I preferred Watson. I liked the whole draft D at 3, and get a QB in the 2nd, or move up to later in the first. After all, Kizer is still available if we’re looking for a guy with potential, that will need some seasoning. But he wasn’t Pace’s guy…

My buddy in LA called it once the trade up was announced; he also predicted his Raiders first round pick. Maybe he needs to be on a draft show? I chuckled when I saw that; I thought it was Solomon Thomas…before I knew how much we gave up. I was hoping there was another pick coming our way… Maybe we would be trading him later in the first round?
The one thing I finally said to calm down after the initial shock, was that at least Cutler was gone. I ranted about how he cost this franchise a decade…about how much I hated him. I also remembered how happy I was when we traded for him. Now, I hope that I can look back on this night, remember how I initially reacted, and laugh…laugh because Pace was actually right.
It took me some time to calm down and process all those emotions. I wanted to stay off Twitter. I needed to walk away for a second. My son wondered if I was ready to play with him, after asking me what was wrong while I ranted on the phone with his uncle. I wanted him to watch the draft with me, as I told him we will be going to Soldier Field for the first time this year; I think we’ll start with a preseason game. I wanted him to remember this potentially historic night; I wondered if the guy we drafted on this night, would be a jersey I would eventually buy him, to go along with the 34 he’s already got. The jury is out.
Is it because we’re coming off the Cutler disaster? Is it because of our not-so-great QB history? I’m just trying to understand my skepticism. I want to believe. I want to think Ryan Pace will be to the Bears what Theo Epstein is to the Cubs. I want to believe that he knows exactly what he’s doing, and we finally have found a franchise QB.
I think I would have felt much better had the Bears drafted Mitchell Trubisky with our original third overall pick…

Trading up one spot to get the guy we would have gotten anyway…what does that prove??? I proves that either the 49ers (Lynch) goated the Bears or the Bears front office is a bunch of dummies. Either way Trubisky would have landed at 3 to us and SO What if the 49ers would have gotten him..so what!!! We would have gotten a stand out DE from Stanford or maybe Humphrey from bama who I really wanted.
Just proves the Bears messed up the impossible and Trubisky should be starting, or they should have never signed Glen-boy.
Fire them all!!!

Definitely a shocker from the Bears. Did pace get had? I mean, sf had no plans on taking trubisky at 2. Afraid of someone else trading up to get him? Really? To give away 3 picks to move up 1 spot is a real brain scratcher. Will mitch work out? Will he play this year? Is he the franchise qb? All questions to be answered in the future. How many 1st round picks actually work out? My guess is half. So like many things, this Bears pick is a coin flip. I dont like it but will not know if it was the right move until he actually plays. Our guy mitch has a lot of doubters to quiet, myself included. GOODluck!
