April 28, 2016: Drafting Leonard

posted in: Bears | 1

So how you like our new number one draft pick?  Hey, if he could get on the field this year, it would be better than last year’s.  But now, that means we’ll have 2 first round draft picks debuting in 2016; that can’t be bad, can it?

I was OK with the pick.  The important thing is we went defense.  I was getting up to speed on some of the prospects driving home from work this week.  Both the Score and ESPN were talking draft, especially since the Blackhawks got knocked out.  The Score had this pretty cool feature.. who’s your guy.  People called in, gave them a name, then they read a scouting report.  So I was partially educated on some of the guys…  although I didn’t get the whole bong report about that one offensive lineman.  That was funny.  He looks like he’s 40 too!

When the Bears traded up, I wasn’t exactly sure who they were trying to grab, so I wasn’t that smart.  I was thinking maybe that safety from West Virginia, who I thought would be a good pick too.  I was glad Elliott was gone personally.  I didn’t want to go RB, or any offense for that matter.  So when the Goodell came out to those boos to call the Bears pick, and when they said we’d be drafting Leonard Floyd, I was OK.  There really is no sure thing, is there?

The guy is tall… and skinny.  The tall part is good, the skinny part not so much.  But, if he could add muscle to that frame, oh yeah, and speed by the way.  He ran a faster 40 than one of the WRs taken in the first round!  So you can’t teach height or speed, and he’s got both of those.  If he’s committed to getting better, he’ll hit the weight room, get on a training and nutritional regimen, soak in Fangio’s teachings, and become an absolute stud.  That’s best case scenario, and that sounds good to me.

I was happy because this was one of the names being tossed around as the guy the Bears were targeting.  At least it wasn’t some guy nobody ever heard of… kind of like Shea McClellin; I hated that pick.  In a much better place with this pick.  I’m thinking and hoping that more of the same will happen in day 2.  Defense and defense.

It’s time to bring the Monsters back.  It’s time to get our identity back.  It’s time to give Fangio all the guys he needs to make us one of the best defenses in the league.  That sounds good to say.  Like I said, the offense already has a first round pick, last year’s, debuting this year.  They should be better.. oh wait, we don’t have Forte.

Don’t want to end this on a negative note, so I won’t.  Happy with the pick.  The Bears are back on the radar.  I’m looking forward to round 2 and 3 and beyond, to see our guys continue to build a better team this offseason; God knows we needed it.  And besides 22 leaving, it’s been a really good one.  Couple that with the 2nd easiest schedule in the league this year, and that will add up to a great season, right?  Right!  Ready to Bear Down!

Like the pick. Speed on the outside that can cover downfield, but more importantly for the Bears, rush the passer. Going D 1st round was definitely the right move. No sure thing with any pick no matter what round, but this guy seems to have some room to grow, get bigger, and have some good value. Keep feeding fangio, he will get the Monsters of the Midway back to being feared. BEAR DOWN!!!
