The day is finally here. Can you believe I’ve never seen the movie Draft Day? That’s messed up… I will be tuning into ESPN and/or NFL Network this evening though, as the Bears will select 9th overall in the first round… for now. I’m excited; I’ve been wearing my Bears gear all week. This is an important next step to fielding a team that will eventually bring that 2nd Super Bowl trophy back to Chicago. Who you got?
Per Draft Kings, the odds on favorite for the Bears selection is an Offensive Lineman. I’m perfectly fine with that. Preferably an OT, let’s pick the best one out there, preferably an LT, that will protect the blind side of Justin Fields for the next decade. I’d prefer to pick a guy that will be starting day 1. I don’t want a project; I’d prefer not to draft a tackle and convert him to a guard… we can do both of these things later in the draft with 1 of our 10 picks. I don’t know enough about the top guys, in any position to be honest, to have a strong opinion on one vs another; there are plenty of people who can give their opinion on that. The only opinion that really matters, is the one held by Ryan Poles and his team; don’t F this up.
I would love to see the Bears draft board; can you imagine? They have to be prepared for X, Y, and/or Z to happen in the first 8 picks. Plus, if certain conditions are met, maybe they have a willing trade partner to move down in the first round, to add another pick in the 2nd/3rd round. I really don’t see the Bears moving up; 9 will be the highest point they pick. What about the DL? I have heard that the DL is the deepest position in the draft, which bodes well for us, I think. No need to reach first round unless that guy is far and away the #1 on our draft board, then I say let’s do it. I’m just curious if Jalen Carter fits that description… I’ve been reading that this is a strong possibility if he’s still available at 9, although now that my buddy just placed a +550 bet that the Raiders select a DL w/their first pick, and they’re ahead of us, hopefully they take him, and then we don’t have to make that call? We’ll see…
A WR, RB, CB… if Poles and company stray away from the safe pick, and take a swing for the fences w/one of those top guys, I guess I wouldn’t be too mad either. I’m setting myself up to be happy with ANY pick that the Bears make in the first round… haha; there’ve been too many times when it’s been the opposite, and I’m like WTF?!?! I’m in a great mood heading into this draft, better than most years I can remember. I’m not stressing; I don’t want the Bears to F this up, but with 10 picks… even 50% from the field would be huge for us. 50% solid starters that is. Yet, with that 1st pick, you’d like to lock in a guy who will be an All Pro; somebody who will be making Pro Bowls. Somebody who will be an integral part of the next Bears Super Bowl team.
Yeah, I’m thinking Super Bowl today, on this NFL Draft Day 2023; the 3 win season that was 2022 is in the rear view… so is the Packers having a HOF QB… haha. The future is bright; this is our time. Let’s enjoy it. And Poles, one last time… DON’T F THIS UP!!! Bear Down!!!!!!!!
